I even lowered the difficulty to MINIMUM and still died to his BS moves. At times there is no "safe" area to stand... Either he leaves blobs of fire or has a homing laser breath that chases you. I used fireball at him ( because Ice magic he resists ) run around dodging stuff, then one fireball... only after 10 minutes of scratching his "underbelly" to die. Over and over again.
I mean... either they designed it for GROUP play or they expect you to respec for archer with stun arrows or mage.
Either way really bad experience.
I mean...the tip says to either parry his "blobs" (does lots of stun damage) or shoot him with stun arrows. And everyone can equip a bow and use stun arrows. Everyone can also equip a shield. Though yes, he is very hard to beat. And even more so when solo.
If you parry the lava balls while aiming at the dragon they will be reflected back at it and will stun it after a few hits.
Once the dragon is stunned it falls on the platform and takes massive damage.
This fight is very much solo-able by any build.
i hate instant death mechanics. they went way overboard with that stupid dragon.
i could get over it if the fight would be in an arena like with the first dragon. but this fight also includes a tiny area where i not only have to avoid the attacks but also watch that i don't fall to my death.
i tried fighting that thing a couple hours using stun arrows.
i tried using the "cheat" method where you stand on one of the cliff sides so the dragons attacks can't reach you. after 500 arrows and the dragons health at about 10% i died of hypothermia :P
i lowered the boss health/attack etc. to the minimum of 25% in the options. didn't change a thing. i am guessing the sliders do not work properly (like the resource sliders only working for some resources).
i decided i couldn't be bothered anymore and used a trainer with unlimited health.
If you want to see the spot as well, he shows it off at about the 9min mark.

If you look at the Youtube video that Grad referred to, you'll find you don't have to use stun arrows. The You Tuber in the video uses fireballs for attack and eternal lightning to break the stun bar. It's only a 15 minute video in which he demonstrates the technique, and ofc you can skip through.
He's a bit of a pain in the ass but it's possible to solo him, I did it with a bow(no stun arrows, just whittled him down with steel arrows). His breath attacks can be dodged. When he does one from the edge of the arena (the one where he sweeps it in an arc) you can just double jump over it. When he's in the center of the arena and slowly turning in a circle, you can keep ahead of it by gliding in short arcs around the platform. If you get knocked off by his wind attacks, there are updrafts around the arena you can catch to get you back onto the platform.
It's nice bonus damage if you can stun him. The vultures that spawn you don't have to really bother with, you can kite them and eventually the dragon will end up killing them when he does a breath attack.
