Do you get your upgrade materials back if you extinguish a Flame Altar?

I want to relocate the Flame Altar within the small village I'm building but I'm worried that i'll lose the materials I've invested in upgrades. Is there a way to move it without extinguishing it?

Place a second altar where you want it. Once placed and upgraded, you can remove the original altar without jeopardizing your base. Unfortunately, unlike building block, you don't get any materials back from the altar.

It's important to note that the flame upgrades, the ones that increase your shroud time and stats, are a permanent unlock.

The upgrades to increase the build range of a specific altar are tied to that altar and are lost. But that's just a bit of stone and some shroud cores, which are easy enough to replace, especially once you have the alchemist.
