ESO has something like this. It's random what your person / people acquire for you, and there's an item cap per day, but it's still a nice little feature. I feel like I've played other games with a similar mechanic, but I can't remember off the top of my head what they are. Though Dragon's Dogma has companions that follow you and will gather both supplies and loot while your party wanders the world. I sure do miss having an NPC companion or three!
Yeah, having companions would be nice. I never got how after Torchlight having a pet that will go sell your junk items yet didn't get picked up with Diablo or Path of Exile. It was such a great feature.
