Should I play Enshrouded?t
I liked Valheim. I play these games for the world, the enemy variety & the loot. Im worried to spend hours in game & find nothing cool or worth my time.

My favorite games of all time: Elden Ring, Pathfinder, Rogue Trader, Pillars of Eternity 2, Dragons Dogma, Baldurs Gate 2, NieR, Fallout NV.. this is the type of player I am. Do you think I will enjoy this game?

My wife and I really like it. If you only get 30 hours of entertainment its a couple of dollars on hour. If you get more then its even cheaper. Cheaper than a movie. It will only get better as they work on it.
It's more like Valhiem than the others you mentioned. It's a survival game, with base building, does have location/quest progression. It doesn't shower you with weapons and armor with all kinds of stats like an arpg, but it does still have a good mount of those. Personally I love the engine/open world of this game. IMO amazing world design overall and for a survival game has good combat. A good number of game modifiers to find your happy place as well.

Then I'd stick a pin in it for now. The world has some fine craftsmanship, but it's not very mechanically or narratively compelling. Enemy variety is made up largely of reskins. There's a lot of loot, but most of it is mundane crafting materials and deconstruct fodder.

What it really lacks right now, ironically, is a spark. A unique, compelling aspect which becomes Why You Play, with all the rest of the genre mishmash just being inoffensively okay background systems.
I'm another Dragon's Dogma fan (original, not the latest one), and I'm very much enjoying Enshrouded. When it comes to loot, it's not bad. I do think we need more variety in armor and outfits, but this is an early access game, so I bet more will come in time. As for weapons, I'm happy with the amount of variety.

Where Dragon's Dogma excels over Enshrouded is the combat system. I find combat fun in Enshrouded, but it's basic. You don't have all the special attacks that you get in DD. I have two characters, one is basically a DD assassin (bow, daggers, sword & board), and the other is basically a mage. But with the mage, it's basically an archer except you're shooting fire / ice / electric / green lantern "bolts" instead of arrows. There are no cool spells like DD, so no bringing down lightning on cyclops or tossing lizards in the air with Comestion.

But Enshrouded has its own strengths over DD, especially when it comes to map size (both literal size and details), along with quests and lore. Of course you can also build your own homes, which is really cool and fun!

Of all the things I miss from DD, I miss my pawn the most. Enshrouded has no companion system, and that makes me sad. Of course you can play with a friend, and that'll make up for this oversight, but I have no friends who own this game, so I'm truly solo.

TLDR - Yes, I think maybe you should play Enshrouded!

I'm not sure what to say here... Enshrouded has probably the Best open world I've encountered - secret locations, puzzles, lots of verticality. Every time I do a quest, I find something I didn't expect, and it feels like an epic adventure!

Another advantage is the abandoned farms you find in some locations, which you can renovate if you don't like building. You will be required to place a Flame Altar as your first quest, and build a base, but it doesn't need to be a big base to start with. You will get the hang of building mechanics quite quickly. Flame Altars also act as teleport points.

One disadvantage is the lack of enemy variety, especially in enshrouded areas. However, as there isn't much combat in the game (when compared to other RPGs), and it doesn't seem to be the main selling point, I don't mind.

I also don't mind the lack of variety in weapon models, because they can be upgraded. Overall, the weapons and combat aren't terrible, but also nothing to write home about...

Strangely, there's also no bodies of water in the game. The dev team plan to add them, but there is no ETA yet.

There are two videos by Force Gaming on YouTube: "50 hours of Enshrouded review" (which was made on release) and "Enshrouded just keeps getting better" (detailing the content updates). I strongly recommend you watch them to help you decide!

It's a survival Crafter/ Base builder. It's got as good as these games get when it comes to loot, combat and enemies. Which means it's nothing like an ARPG.

the world is pretty good. the enemy variety just is not there unfortunately, you are pretty much fighting the same enemies the entire way through. the loot is also straight up terrible, arguably the worst part of the game. the biggest strength of enshrouded is the building and the progression of crafting materials and stations that comes with it. if you dont like building, this might not be the best game for you.

first and foremost : despite popular claims this is NOT a survival game. too many people nowadays believe any game with base building is a survival game. which is just not the case.

its as much a survival game as zelda is : not at all.

this is mostly an action adventure game with the optional building aspect. for progression you only need the bare minimum on that front. a simple wodden box of decent size will do that already.

as for your comparisons on loot :

gear in this game LOOKS COOL. but statwise its some of the most boring loot you can imagine you cannot even stash your weapon or shield on your character currently its always held in hand or disappears. plus the added fact that the best weapons are all rng loot from chests. you pretty much have to resort to the reload/restart method to get something good currently as youll get weapons not even suitable for your build nonstop. the weapons have no special effects or anything of the like either.

most recent update best armor is fully crafted. you never need to find anything on that front currently. just craft it. done. no special effects either.

most of the games you listed have vastly superior loot and systems than this game. elden rings loot is so far better its not even funny. dragons dogma is also vastly better as that game did rng loot in a good way compared to enshroudeds current case.

fallout nv pillars 2 and baldurs gate 2. all miles ahead on the loot front.

i dont wanna crush your dreams but dont expect much from avoweed. youll end up disappointed otherwise. wait a bit on serious non paid reviews on it once it releases. youll see why once you read or view em.

for this game i would advise on getting it cheap during a sale and letting it ripen in your libary. its decent but its not really there yet overall. and loot sadly is... currently this games biggest weakness. its even worse than skyrim loot.

Found where to ask ))) There are two camps here, some like it, others don't, but everyone plays it! Dude, you should go to YouTube to understand whether you want to play it or not!:funnycube:

I definitely am not attached to any thing ive found so far, i don't personally think there's anything interesting to fined or anyway to display anything in anyway that gives me satisfaction. i also dont feel like the building and aesthetics give me that feeling like it does on valheim where you can build a cozy home and fill it with treasure and cool decorations. Enshrouded just dosent feel lived in.. it feels like palworld lol like fake furniture vibe.... uncanny valley sense
Loot is fine.

Loot is not that amazing ( not much choice and totally rng on weapons ), but exploration is cool and so is gliding ( and some friends are also enjoying housing ). Combat system is ok being a survival.

Its something they want to look at, but atm world building is priority. In time I am sure it will improve, I would buy the game on sale, leave it for when it finishes EA. I like the game and enjoy it, but the EA is frustrating, I want to finish the whole story but atm its like episodes, this is the way of all EA though. Valheim i defended for ages, but that progress became a joke. With the turd of Mistlands, and nothing after it at the time I gave up on it.
So really it's down to your views on EA.

There's probably not enough content yet for you to like this game. The things you mention are very repetitive right now.
I agree with others about the RNG loot being disappointing. I found my best daggers in some nondescript location, whereas I'll run some really big and complicated dungeon and end up getting a trash weapon at the end of it because of RNG. If the game is going to use RNG, it should at least use predetermined weapon classes - for example, legendary weapons in huge, hard dungeons.

I still do these dungeons because I like exploring, but boy am I disappointed every time I finish one only to be given yet another copy of Corrosive Daggers...
