So getting animals now is close to impossible
I have a few games and animals in all except this newest one. I can't get any of them. They are massively more skittish and reset really fast. I have no idea why the hell they thought that part of the game needed to be made a time-sink but it is just way too annoying now.

I just quitted the f*** game due to frustration trying to tame, Who the heck desing a tame system based on a damm ball tha falls down to all climbs and you put the damm goats in the montains whitout any plain road, balls fall down, Animals bugged detecting you due to diferent altitudes.. Its just too anoying. I will calm down and try the next week.

I suggest strongly to set the taming process to "don't loose progress" in options. Taming then still is not really a fun experience, but it is quite possible without too much hassle. (And try to approach your future furry friends from behind. Don't move too fast ...etc. )

Came back to Enshrouded after a hiatus and wanted to try the cat taming as well. The proximity alert is extremely sensitive, even on default settings and with Beastmaster skills. I appreciate @willixx comment and will try that. I did get 1 red heart which quickly dissipated because I didn't back away fast enough or quiet enough or both. Maybe some potion from the Alchemist to radiate a calming aura like the Animal Whispers potion now available for taming in Valheim.

Excellent advice, thank you.

I do approach from the back but these are really sensitive now. It's infuriating.

I hope so because this level is insanely frustrating. Get a heart then it goes away... The animal turns and comes right at you and you can't back off... I had a cat in a corner area and tossed a few bait into the corner and waited (so it'd go after them 1 at a time) I still couldn't get all 3 hearts done.
Wait til you see how much food ONE cat eats. If you get all cats, and doggos and everything else I fear that thousands of food will be eaten every few hours and I jsut do not care to do that. Maybe there is a mod that cuts out the feeding mechanic. It is HORRIBLE.

And yes it is HORRIBLE for any foods needing meat or milk or anything you cant grow. Growing plants if SO eazy, but not getting meat, ie wolf meat for cats (rarely drops).

I see wolf meat drop all the time around the starting area. There is roaming packs of 5-6 wolves all over. I have the cat and just got the dog the cats bowl has had food in it over many sessions from just one batch I made. The only thing I had issues with for finding the food was the stinging nettles, but once I did I can hold one back to use in the planter which gives me another 25 plants to harvest.
The devs at the German studio Keen Games always been like this. Mobility and positioning matter a lot to them, more than most Western gamers are willing to engage with. I should know, I've played Portal Knights; that game always loved giving power to a +10% movement speed boost.

Here's some quick tips:
1) Oddly enough, bows are your friend. Before you start taming something, you should spook them into going someplace more open, and also make them face you from afar. I haven't tried spooking the cats out of the alchemist's tower but I assume it's doable.

2) Faster sneaking. Some wild animals just can't be tamed without a speed boost. It's a sad fact. Wearing leather pants will help with this, but Rangers and Assassins can easily afford the 3 skill points for an extra +40% sneak speed boost. Even if you're some other class, consider resetting your skill tree for the express purpose of a taming trip. Once you're done, you put the pants away and reset your skill tree again.

3) As you approach the wild animal that you've spooked into position, drop a long line of bait. The line should be as long as your double jump can let you glide. If you can't do a double jump, then do double your gliding distance. This is crucial for tip #4.

4) When you pet the wild animal, pet them from behind. They like to wander away from you, so make them wander over your long line of bait.

Done right, your setup should look like this:

X * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Y Z - - - - - - - C

X is where you started, * is bait, Y is the animal, Z is you petting them to push them into your bait line, the -'s is the empty space you'll need to escape to, and C is where you shot an arrow (as per tip #1) to spook the animal into standing at Y.
(There's a reason the devs let you craft so much bait; you're supposed to waste it on the floor.)

With practice, the setup and taming shouldn't take more than 3 minutes per animal.
The cats are an exception, as the setup will take longer.

Yeah, the game is turning out to be a serious nag. All of the NPC's nag you, the game nags you to do the Blackmire quests when I'd rather work on other things. Selecting a different unfinished quest should be the only thing that shows up, but no, there's no way to keep the Blackmire quests from still showing up on your compass, other than completing them, of course, but I have no interest in doing that right now.

Now they want me to be a farmer. What did I rescue two farmers for?

So that it would be possible to build 2 bets and there would be NPC doubles for crafting there...
After many posts about difficult taming, today I specifically went to tame a cat for the FIRST time in the Alchemist's Tower, there are no other animals at all, I only read here and in the game how to tame! 15 minutes and 20 baits and the cat is mine. And I understand that she is the most difficult because of her location. The first time I stroked her in the building, then I threw baits so that she would go to the exit and onto the balcony, in the end it worked! Now I understand why the developers don't listen to such whiners! They don't like taming, then fights, then puzzles, then clothes, then farming! )))):lunar2019crylaughingpig::lunar2019crylaughingpig::lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Unfortunately, there seems to be some issue with the don't lose progress setting. When I had the default, the "pet" sequence did get a single red heart. But with don't lose progress the setting appears to be interpreted in my game as "make no progress". I'm holding the "pet" key and it does not appear to be taking effect no matter how long I hold it.

I'll revert the setting and see if there is a correlation and if so, report it on the support sub-forum.

>>>>> Changing the setting did not help. I then thought it might be having more than a single instance of bait and the game mechanic was confused if the key should be interpreted as "pick up bait" or "pet" but even a single instance of bait had the same behavior. This did happen after I changed the setting so I might try to re-load the game and try again.
