stray dog disappeared

so yesterday i got to the abandoned watchtower and there was a tameable dog. after a few frustrating tries i ran out of baits and had to go back to my base to make new baits so i could try again. when i got back the dog was nowhere to be found, i reloaded the game a few times, hoping it would respawn in the cage but it didn't. i tried looking around but i can't find it. any ideas how to get it to respawn?

did you place a flame that covers the area?
if not, just wait and it will eventually reset the area.
if you did, remove the flame and wait for the area to reset.

oh i did place a flame altar up the hill, i'll remove it then. the enemy dogs kept respawning so i thought the altar wasn't an issue

Had the same problem with the cat in the wizards tower. A flame altar was a bit too close, so the cat did not respawn after I had to leave for more bait. Setting the altar a bit farther away solved the problem. The cat (and the rats..) respawned..

Im currently stuck on Quest ( Lupa's Hounds ) i kill everything in the Lair including Boss, i seen the dog when i 1st arrived and then he disappears. Has been HOURS and still no respawn. In fact why did he despawn in the first place?

I "THINK" he is in one of the cages.

Have searched the ENTIRE area and no luck. No possible way to complete the Quest unless he spawns.

it probably ran off somewhere, in my case removing the altar i had nearby solved it. deactivated it, did some other quests then went back and it had respawned.

There is another way to get this dog, if it is bugged in your world. You can pick it up in another world or on a public server. Then take it home and place it in your base.
Just make sure to have much time and carry a ton of baits, since you can't adjust the taming difficulty on a public server.
