Grid Based Building
For real get rid of it, it's trash and limits base building creativity by a lot. There are so many other games that have free building where people can create the base of their dreams yet this limits so much.

Are you aware that you can precisely place and rotate objects? Look at the text in the bottom-right corner of the screen for the key combinations.

It does nothing, if you are placing a foundation all it does is rotate it 90 degrees which is literally zero help. you have so little freedom of building when you are confined to a grid based building scheme.

Tapping R will rotate 90 degrees.

You're not reading everything.
Hold R and scroll up and down for "precise" rotation.
Hold Q and scroll up and down for "precise" movement.

Tap X to toggle snapping.

I am not trying to be an ahole here, but I am trying to say is I reinstalled the game to check this and I do NOT get that context for those commands. holding r does NOTHING for me. Unless I am missing a keyboard control or something that does nothing. I tried checking the keyboard layout and it still wouldn't do it, and I am trying to make it work with a foundation and still nothing.

it does nothing for me either. also that option that lets you "collect all resources" from animals does nothing either

Exactly
You have something not working because the finetuning placement is there. It is even in the patch notes.

Not sure what it could be, ive no mods, no changes to the layout for keyboard. So not sure what exactly it could be. i'd glady change my opinion on the building if I can actually get it to work.
I just went to check this and try to help. I was sure it would work. It didn't.

For furniture, yes I can fine tune the rotation by holding R and moving the mouse wheel. But tested with a rough stone block and shape 1 or 7 (the big foundation and floor part), the hint text mentions nothing about holding R and using the mouse wheel to fine tune the rotation and it does not function if you try it. I was very surprised but then again it's not something I really cared much about before.

Edit: The patch notes make this pretty clear:

Full rotation control for props
Props can now be rotated in all axes instead of just the vertical axis. Please note this new functionality is only available for decorative furniture and similar props. Furniture and interactive props like the Flame Altar, beds, benches, chairs, thrones, toilets, and similar can only be rotated around the vertical axis as previously. Building blocks and building shapes can only be rotated by 90° as before.

ether your character or you save file is bugged...

its mostly like your character.

sadely mosy players had to start a new character to fix the new patch bugs...

sory but thats gonna happen alot since this game is EA
Holding R and scrolling only works on objects not on the foundations or walls. I read the patch notes and it does not apply to foundations or walls that I can find.

Foundation building blocks are N S E W locked. There is no 45 degree angles on walls. It's less restricting then you think. All else can be dropped on an angle.

Sadly not helpful if your building foundations are locked like that. That is a pretty big over sight and limiting mechanic for making cool bases or being creative. I hope the devs can fix this as it is such a flawed thing.
Not really an oversight. I think it's built into the voxel world.

Choose a wood block, such as Half-Timbered 4M Full Wall. Hit (x) to switch to free-placing. As you move the ghost image from side to side to position, it changes the design. The layout is already set in the game file.

I'd love to see full free-rotation for all building blocks, or at least 30 degree rotations (3 turns), but 15 would be ideal (6 turns). This would give you plenty of layout choices.

Even so far as to being able to reposition wall-look in the ghost image, the ability to pan the layout left-right-up-down before you place the wall.

This limitation bothered me at first too, a year ago, as I was used to other things.
But I refused to let it get in the way of my fun and saw it as a challenge to adapt my design accordingly and see how much it actually prevented me from realising my ideas.

And guess what? The result was: not at all. The building system offers so much more and different freedom, which I now sorely miss in other games, that I no longer even notice the fixed orientation.

We decide for ourselves how much we want things to affect us. If I want to, I can see only the bad in everything, but why should I do that to myself? I want to have fun.

Enjoy!
