Dog gone, what do I do?

Every once in a while NPCs will disappear and it's not a big deal because you can just summon them back.

This time one of the dogs (Ikko) disappeared and I can't find him anywhere. He's not back at where I tamed him and he's nowhere within our town. Is he gone forever?

Normally the dogs respawn. Even you have Ikko already in your base, there should be another Ikko at the Abandoned Watchtower.
Restart the game and check again if he is there.

But it sounds like something is wrong with your game files. Have you tried already to verify the game files in Steam ?

Oh, you didn't tell you're playing on a server or in a hosted world. Then there is nothing you can do about it, only the host can solve it.
In my private world the dogs or cats are sometimes not to find at their spawn points. But after a restart they are there, so it's up to your host.

not sure about your server rules but you can transfer from world to world so you could maybe go to a private world and get him back that way but im not sure.

That's a good advice, you can get the dog in another world too.

i thought my dog was gone too but then i search my whole base for him only to find him stuck at the dark corner of my small room with alchemy station

Sadly I had looked all over for him. Once before he'd gone missing by glitching onto the top of the house, but he wasn't there either. T-T We searched everything within the base circle. Ended up waiting for him to respawn at the location you tame them at, tamed him again, and when I put him down there were enough beds for everyone so... he was gone for sure.

Lost my dog yesterday and couldnt find him. After a while I stumbled upon a tiny almost invisible hole in the ground from previous terraforming activities and the boy fell inside and could not get out.

At first, I couldn't get the dog to respawn by exiting and restarting. Then I found I'd put a flame alter too close to the dog's respawn location. When I removed the flame alter (and built another a little further away), the dog respawned, as did the ghost dogs.

I can confirm animals do seem to vanish for good, I was assisting a friend on their server and had picked up one of his dogs one of his cats and two armadillo as he was building. The internet had a blip and suddenly I was not in his base but dead in the shroud several metres away. Even tho we have 'drop loot on death' turned off, when I respawned back at his base the animals were completely gone.

Oh, I'm going to look for him there. I came back from a very long raid. The food is in the bowl, but the cat is nowhere to be found. And you can't hear the meow.

I am having a problem with my cats disappearing. I have lost 2 already. I am not sure if they fell into a crevice near my house. I built near the red section and cannot cover it up. I might have to move my house. I am sad they are gone, even though I can get them again.

When I can't find my cats, it's usually because they have tucked themselves into a tiny little crevasse somewhere or behind something and got stuck. You're going to have to comb every little nook and cranny in your place and look for that little hungry/no shelter icon, unfortunately.
