The first hollow hall is good because you get a survivor, so is the second, because you get a forge for the survivor, but im doing the rest just now after reaching max level, there are a lot of enemies inside since the dungeon is design for coop and not solo, but its doable solo.
Chests in coop are normal, if you loot the loot is gone, the next guy gets nothing, thats when the coop part get into the game, if you are a mage and found a good melee weapon gift it to your coop buddy, even if it is not a friend, loot will get better and hoarding it is not cool.
Some gold chests will have worst gear, but if every gold chest was a legenday people would just unlog and relog and farm the chests until oblivion, they already do this btw, loose the whole surprise and reward of finding a good gear imo, i leave it to chance, i never farm, specially in EA, who knows what the devs will add on release, im sure the level cap will be raised to 50, so every gear you have now will become obsolete.
The mobs are funny, AI is dumb, you shoot one they alert the others, and thats the only good feature imo, since agro is good but then they forget you fast, which is stupid. You can see dogs barking and bandits screaming, thats the alerting sound, its well made, i like it.
Im playing as an archer, go double jump first, very useful, a must have and low on the skill tree, another thing is i spec to tank, those constitution points gave me the survavibility to not be one shotted at higher levels, not to mention always go food buffed, its easy to keep up those.
Battle heal is a great skill, 5% heal on melee crits. I resent the 4 points I had to spend on evasion attack to get it though. Skills that increase you crit chance obviously make it worth more.
The ring that gives you a 6% chance to leach health is very useful also, albeit inconsistent. You should find one or 2 eventually. (It's A 6% chance of healing 100% of the damage on a given hit.) As far as I know, if you wear 2 they work independently. It'll give you some big heals if you are lucky, though not always when you need them.
If you aren't going melee, I don't have much advice
Cleared areas in a Hall will repopulate behind you if you taking a bit of time getting through.
The level of loot in general is tied to the level of the region you are in; for example loot in the Blackmire is around or slightly better than lvl 15 at base.
If you are playing on default difficulty then mob 'awareness' is not set super high so you can pull single mobs from groups, but just always be ready for a party. Have an escape route and don't be hesitant to use it.
And looted weapons, no matter what level or rarity, are always worth salvaging into upgrade tokens.
