Is there a setting to make both players able to loot the same chest?
Not too fond of the incentive to loot chests before the other player gets to them. It encourages less cooperative play... sort of. Is there a setting that lets chests have (dedicated) loot for each player?

I don't think there is a setting- I've looked high and low. It sure would be great though.

I used to run with a friend and then we discovered we weren't always getting credit for quests, and having to take turns looting chests. Now we don't run together because we have to do it all again a second time and that's no fun.

It'd just be nice if you're with someone on the same mission, you both get credit and chest contents. I've seen some work arounds for both getting credit, but how nice it would be to not have to work around.

+1 Seriously that's a big fundamental problem imho, not sure why they haven't done that from the start. It *discourages* playing coop...!
I think it does encourage cooperative play. You actually have to open your mouth and communicate with the other player who openend the chest in order to find out what was inside and who would profit most from getting the items.

If the chest is part of a quest then all players need the item in the inventory once to finish it, which takes some coordination between them.

If all chests could be looted by everyone you wouldn't need any teamwork at all.

You can also trade items to players which comes in handy for quest items.

This is a coop game, act like it. It doesnt matter if another player gets there first, you share all loot. Chests respawn, there is zero reason for you to be fighting over chests.

it doesnt discourage anything, you just need to actually play the game like its a coop game and work together.

Life isn't long enough to wait and talk out contents of each chest. Seriously. If you have the time and patience for that, good for you. Fact is, there's no provisions for that either; you can't see what the other player looted, so you have to ask, or discuss it out for each chest.
Well its a coop game, if you are with a friend you have to trust the guy, you can kind of know whats inside based on the area you are at, but trust here is key, and respect, that too.

When i enter someone elses server, a stranger usually, if i find a chest and the guy is close enough i let him open it first, and thats it, if hes too far away and i find something really good i gift it to him, gear and loot in this game respawn, its plenty, i dont think anybody need to be a hoarder here.

Not to mention the devs wont change this, they want to encourage cooperation, if you are a hoarder, you will soon be playing alone.

No need to talk nonsense about cooperative communication and sharing. Communism has somehow been divorced! Where's my dopamine, the loot is in the chest, and it doesn't matter what's in it! It's not right that only one player gets a reward in a joint quest! Moreover, from the analysis of weapons, runes are obtained, which are needed to strengthen weapons. And everyone needs runes!

Any chests that require them to be looted for completion, most of the time if the person who looted if they pass you off the item it generally completes for you. If not it will reset in 30 mins if you leave the area so can go back to it.

Normally the passing of the item does work in my case.
