Fell Dragon Youngling is a big mean jerk
I'm starting a thread for complaining about this boss. Maybe I'm just bad at this, but damn this thing is hard.

The insta-kill beam is just too over-the-top. The beam moves faster than you, and often times even if you fly around the island to outrun it, you might land and look back to check for the dragon's status only to still be hit with it and die immediately, losing all progress.

Speaking of gliding around, the updrafts here are REALLY not powerful or dense enough to be reliable. I've died several times simply because the updrafts just weren't picking me up enough and I fell into the lava.

The meteors are hard to learn the parry timing. There's little, if any visual indicator on the timing, so I'm often either missing them entirely, or just blocking them uselessly. I'm not really leveled into archery, and this boss is basically just that. Including the vultures that spawn which are incredibly difficult to take out via melee attacks.

Case in point, this boss is a stupid butt and I hate him, and this might be the point at which I stop playing. Please join in my complaints.

Keep an eye out on it's tells when it goes to use the breadth weapon and use the glider to fly toward it but turn a little left/right you'll end up behind it, and you can pelt it with arrows/magic.

Bring a lot of potions with you and a ton of ammo with you too.

Oh also make sure you get ghost glider if you dont have it already.
Its made for group fights, you can do it with archer, the easier way, mage is gonna have trouble but its doable, now warrior is the hard one, as always hehehe, like Zarian said lots of potions, problem is the freeze timer, i had to quit the fight when he was 1/3 health just because my timer was running out.

They should really change the arena layout, donut shape is not good, just get hid of the whole shroud lava already and make that a flat arena where we can run around, it wont be so easy since now to escape his breath attacks we will not be able to jump and fly on the drafts.

maybe he not be a mean jerk if you came to him with cake and tea instead of raised swords.

Just dropping in here to say, it is not that you are just bad at it. This dragon IS strong.

We evenutally beat it with a group of 3 players, several attempts and we swallowed our pride and turned the difficulty down a bit. In our defence: this was all without reading any hints on how to beat this foe easlily with certain tricks.

But yea, dont give up on the game, just because you think that you are bad at it - that is not the case.

It relies on you constantly being able to time the dodges, and always fly back on the updrafts. The issue is he's such a tank that unless your a robot, it's just more likely you'll slip up.

I cheesed it by simply creating a nook in the surrounding mountain and arrowing him to death. Took ages since I've little invested in archery (and no I couldn't be bothered to respec it all).

I don't think it's at all an enjoyable fight, I think they need to rebalance somehow.

I've solo killed it multiple times now all solo, it's not that hard. It's mechanics are quite easy to learn and there's only a few of them. Practice makes perfect.

You don't necessarily need the best of the best gear, but don't be too under geared for it. Make use of the best possible foods and stat boosting potions you can, especially those that provide frost resistance over time. If you're not a heavy hitter, than the fight will be longer than normal and you will need every minute of frost protection you can get.

Hate him. He sucks. I play solo, melee, and for me he's not even on my radar for attempting again. I'll wait for creative mode to have snow houses. Poop on the dumb thing. :steamsad:
The boss himself is not terrible; but a combination of terrible Boss Arena design coupled with questionable AI behaviour results in this dude being unnecessarily difficulty solo.

There are not enough updrafts and they're too far away from the Ring platform; resulting in you needing to glide a significant distance away from the platform to reach an updraft which doesn't provide enough lift for it's size.

The Ring platform you fight the boss on is FAR too narrow (and covered in snow). In many cases, once you stun the boss he has to fly (while drunkenly flapping) a significant distance to "fall" on the platform.
The boss himself is too fat for the platform, resulting in his head hanging half off the platform making it impossible or risky to hit him.
Because he flaps to the platform, he will usually attempt to fall on the nearest player, pushing them off the platform (which is unbelievably stupid for solo players because you'll be pushed off too far from an updraft to get back up, resulting in either death or missing the damage-dealing phase of the fight)

Stat-wise, the boss is really only susceptible to melee (with an ice-based weapon) once downed or slowly grinding him down with a bow (which he's resistant to).
While the boss himself uses fire attacks for which there is ZERO protection or resistance. Once you're set on fire, you're stuck that way while taking non-reduceable damage. His fire breath does too much damage and sets you on fire, which for non-Constitution builds is a death sentence.
Unless you are built like a str-con tank (which I was using), you must avoid all of his attacks and spam healing potions.

Bad behavior: The boss regularly flies through the solid platform and the player and while gliding around the outside of the arena.
Basically, this boss is the furthest thing from "cool" that it could be.

The ring platform needs to be twice as wide to accomodate the oversized boss and have more updrafts that are better spaced around the arena.
Maybe have a second wider (enshrouded) floor below the first instead of being all deadly shroud. Somewhere the boss can crash after being knocked out instead of flapping awkwardly across the arena while unconscious.
I mean my first kill I think I died like 10 times trying to learn his move sets. I went in blind so I could figure the fight out myself. Took like 12 minutes for the total fight. Then I did some research and let me tell you that I never used any buff food or elixirs but they help SOOOO much. So get buff foods for whatever your play style is and elixirs. Learn to parry the fireballs and get stun arrows or get the infinite lightning spell. Once you stun him 1 time you will do like 50%+ dmg to him the rest of the fight. I can get him killed in about 1-2 minutes with my magic character. If I had end game gear, still using lvl 35 max gear and wep, I could kill him probably sub 30 seconds. I just don't feel like save spamming chests to get the updated gear.
