Why do the characters look like dwarfs?
Everything seems big but the character models.

I do get that short feeling when playing. After a while, you just get used to it.

Here's the funny thing. If you have a two handed weapon and swing at a rat, you swing over them and miss. :)

My theory is they were reproportioned at some point to fit the building assets better. Others make unsupported lore arguments, but they're grasping at straws.

outside of this little man esthetic, the game does look fun. i have not played it yet as i still have my reservations if i'm going to get this or not, i'm mostly a single player kind of dude and i do like more realism in character looks, the game does actually look beautiful even though the games requirements are way lower than i thought possible for such a good looking game, i'm not exactly sure how they accomplished that to be honest, but that's perfectly fine.

i just wish the character looked more adult normal human size looking, because as is they look like midgets or toddlers, i just can't stand the look of them, but outside that, the game overall looks good and fun.

IF that's your main concern, I still highly recommend the game. It's fantastic looking imo; sure some characters look a bit out of proportion but on the whole it's not -so- bad; and overall a very fun game either solo or multiplayer.

I'd like to second what Therin said above. I only recently started playing and the game has really hooked me. I've been playing exclusively single player/offline private server and have had a blast the whole time. personally I don't think the characters look wildly out of proportion or like dwarves myself, just maybe bigger heads than the average real person. it seems like a stylistic choice and doesn't feel out of place, or at least I don't notice it. everything so far has been really impressive for this style of game.

As a married man, I'd like to point out that the female models need proper cleavage. I'm not talking 1990s Lara Croft, but they all shouldn't be in training bras either.

"They all shouldn't be" also shows a limitation in the character creator that I'm not fond of - all bodies (per sex) are identical, no variation in height, weight, or musculature. If we cannot have fine-tuned control over this, at least give us a little variety in the presets.

I felt the same but only ever notice it when first building the character or logging in and out. imo it's not as bad as it seems at first glance.

So funny, I booted this game up last night and had the same thought. So, I came here to see what other people were saying and this is the first post. What awkward proportions!

Seems to be a regular discussion

Indeed. The cover art, for example, supports this idea. Completely normal proportions that somehow are not used in the actual game.
The postures and animations certainly add to the dwarfish vibe. We're bulkier than the Fell we face, our stances are comically wide, we're a little bit on the slow-moving side, our heads are very slightly bigger, we have a gait that really pumps our guns, and the wind batters our limbs when we glide. We have to look like we just stepped out of a steel, muscle-building sauna.

And then you look at the cover art like Yale here said, and we have proportions that're closer to other games. My guess is that being taller would've made the gliding feel awkward in places. Clipping lanky arms into walls, perhaps, or catching our taller hitboxes on overhangs.

At least one of the chest armors in the new update is adding what you're looking for. Might be a consequence of bundling up, but I'm quite happy with the shadows being cast.

this is kind of funny in a way if you think about it...they went from hobbits to dwarfs. except this thread is more civil than the others so far.:steamhappy:

Oompa Loompa has been in the mix as well (the 1971 "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" film). All jokes aside about the characters, the game is a lot of fun and pretty solid (i can see this game being a huge juggernaut hit when finished). :lightbringer:
I'm definitely having fun with the game, even if my characters are a bit goofy looking. It might be the intentional artistic style of the game. I am fighting weird junkyard people and giant Ewoks, so being a hobbit in a land of hobbits isn't necessarily out of place with the rest of the game.
