Companion roaming...
I know how to use the Summoning Staff to limit Companion roaming range but any suggestions on how to keep them in the underground workspaces or at least not all sitting in a field above? See video if you need to.

You can actually set their 'roam' distance by just talking to them and under their portrait you can cycle 'R' for the different distances.

As to keeping them in one place I have not checked if there is an option for a 'no roam' toggle and given that they need access to a bed I would guess you would need to build their bed in the their workspace and then maybe fence in their same area?

They are set to 10m? (which I think is the lowest setting; they still walk two sets of stairs to get to that field :)

It might have something to do with pathfinding/being underground? It's just weird they all go to that field. Not in the building or behind it. :)

I do have beds in the areas near their workspaces; some use it and some don't. It may be just that being in a vault doesnt really work. :/

Thanks for the feedback/suggestions.

Don't forget to 'assign' the beds to each crafter or they will just plop down wherever they find one. For assigning you do need the summon staff.

I've done that... they still go 2-3 flights of stairs to go hang out in a field. :)

Only 4 of my NPCs find their beds and don't get stuck between some furnitures or camp behind the house forever. Some NPCs even walk away and disappear. My solution so far: I have set their distance to zero, since then they stay at their place.

Sounds like they need to work on the functions of this new mechanic.

As others have said you can use the summoning staff to lower the range of the NPCs, which can help. There's a few known bugs that have cropped up with the mechanic though that the team is aware of. This is just the first iteration, it will get more changes and improvements in the future :)

All of the companions are set at the lowest roaming range (edit: I thought 10m was it) and are assigned to beds near their workstations. All but the Carpenter walk three flights of stairs up to go stand in a field (above) where their shops are.

I'm sure it's just a bug. I was just trying to find a workaround until it's fixed/addressed.

It seems like moving bases is the only thing that is going to work for now.

Thanks for the replies.

Many of those things I've experienced too.

I did notice you could set it to zero. TY,

Not a huge deal but I really think you should have made the default roam distance zero, not 10m. Let people turn wandering on if they want it and leave the NPCs where they were for those of us who don't. Now every player who wants roaming off has to go to each NPC individually to shut it off and then put them back where they were. We shouldn't have had to do that.

NPCs should NOT stop near doorways. That got annoying within seconds just like I thought it would. Two or three of them kept bunching up at doorways just standing there doing nothing. They also seem to wander into corners behind furniture and get stuck. They also seem to take naps on the floor even when assigned to a bed and they'll lay down in such a way that they clip through the walls.

I agree.
Also the distance options seem pretty wild to me. Does anyone actually use the ranges above 10m? I would appreciate a 3m or 5m option, so they don't just stand there like breathing statues that can't use their beds but stay at home / in their shop so I don't have to run across half my village to find them.

Also, since that update my villagers keep disappearing and glitching from their position, even if they are set to stationary. My carpenter was just gone for a few days for example and then spawned again by his own (or I turned game off and on again inbetween, not sure anymore). I also already had at least 3 villagers despawn completely, like, the staff said they aren't summoned at all and I had to resummon them. Both the carpenter and the blacksmith also glitched 2m from their assigned position by now and keep glitching further xD

I generally like the feature but some further improvements would be much needed ^^

I don't think it's a bug. Maybe just a symptom of what is still a basic and new mechanic. But I've found that if you afk (for instance when I'm waiting for crops or craft stations to finish) npcs tend to walk towards you and stop moving when they're like 1~2 meters away from you. I've come back to my game a few times now where I found myself surrounded by most or all of the npcs. All just staring at me in a circle.
