Flatten land for farming using rake to save resources.
Does putting farming soil on the ground and spread it using rake/flatten land actually work as farming soil or just appearance ?

I can just spread from the brown soil to the rocky ground and it will change the appearance into farming soil, is it just appearance or is it actually working as farming soil.

I'd imagine its just appearance. With the cost of materials it's some pricey flooring.

Isn't using rake not cost anything ? that's the point of the question. It will change the appearance of grassy ground to farming ground, with no cost if using rake, and the question is whether it's just appearance or is it actually working as a farming soil because it appears as farming soil after flattened using adjacent part that looks like farming soil

Like this for example

Oh if your just using it to flatten, then no it's just dirt.

Spreading soil with the rake does indeed count as more farming soil.

You can even spread it and mine it if you want to get more for another field or w/e.

This works for anything the rake can spread like the new flower soil too.

Don't even need to spread it.
Placing farming soil with the hammer and then mining it with the pickaxe results in a net positiv already.

Ok thanks.

Before anyone decides this is some kind of exploit, think carefully about what a rake is normally used for.

If you want a definite flat surface to rake out, use the flat ceiling panels to carve out the area before putting in the farm soil.

If you're generating soil to dig up then consider making a pillar of farm soil and setting the rake to vertical so you spread out a wall that can be dug without leaving random holes in the ground

ok, noted. Didn't know it can go vertical, I'll try it the next time I run the game

If you want to practice with the rake first, my suggestion would be to place an altar away from your base with ground you can mess about without worrying since removing the altar will mean that it'll reset back to normal.
