1. Slowly approach an animal.
2. When it shows the yellow question mark you throw the bait.
3. When the yellow heart is pulsing you sneak nearer (best from behind)
4. When it shows the yellow circle with the question mark or the red exclamation mark, you withdraw until these disappear
5. When the yellow heart is pulsing again you sneak nearer
6. Pet the animal (or repeat 4 if the yellow circle appears again)
7. Repeat 1-6 until all hearts are red and pick up the animal.
Most important: be patient!
People don't read whats in front of them on the screen and just rush and do it then come here and complain.
! Only withdraw with the exclamation point
This.
And I find it very helpful to take care of all the enemies in the area beforehand, even the friendly rat in the basement of the house next door.
I really enjoy taming in Enshrouded. I think it's a very well done and intuitive mini-game, but you will need to be patient.
For the impatient among us, the options allow you to choose whether to lose your taming progress (default) or keep it.
As always, have fun!
Cats are tricky and just a finicky in game as they can be IRL. They also tend to get stuck on debris and anything that may be around if they are near it. Terrain changes also makes them more difficult to Tame. Taming them also gets all wonky if there are tables, chairs, or anything else they can walk under. The variations can "bug" them a bit so that no matter what you do, the red question mark comes up and prevents the taming.
Your best bet with a cat is to tame them in an open area or 2. If a room can be cleared out 100% before your start the attempt, WITHOUT scaring them off so some other damnable location, you'll have a better time of it.
Always make sure your backside is clear enough to back away and not bump into anything or get stuck on debris, furniture, terrain, or anything else. That way you can keep an eye on the cat the entire time.
I'm not saying that the efforts make it easy. I'm only saying that the efforts help make the situation better and smoother.
Oh and there's a six heart cat out there as well. Good Luck!
It might suck less if the bait actually lured them from a distance, so I could pick my spot, but having to throw it in the animal's line of sight and NOT providing a target on the ground where I want it to land, makes a poor experience even worse. Add to that the lost bait that rolls down the mountainside while trying to tame a goat and what you have is a mechanic in need of a complete overhaul.
Oh, and if I have to stop crouching to jump over the terrain (or am forced into a standing position because I stepped off of a ledge shorter than knee-height) the whole thing resets? Are you out of your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mind, or just a sadist?
