Optimization issue
Seems like optimization has gone out the window lately... I don't remember my high end system going to all out war with balanced settings in this experience. Devs, any comment?

Make sure your game is on the same drive has Steam. Not sure why, never had it before but huge lag is introduced if its not on the same drive.

Thanks for the input but eeeeesh that one is a basic Steam rule if you want any game to run smooth without load delays... learned that a long while back.
In this case, it looks to be more about CPU/GPU utilization which is very high compared to FFXVI and WuKong for example...

Not just you. It's clearly an issue and not related to drive latency as suggested above. I've noted the game pulls a consistent 250W even when limited to 60 FPS on a 4080 @1440. Changing the graphical settings have little impact too.

The game just isn't optimised well or at all. Whether it's due to poor game design or just that they have bothered doing it yet time will tell I guess. It is really annoying though. It does not need to be this was and power costs money!

Worse performance areas are Revelwood and Blackmire. Everything else i can do at 2560x1440 Max settings DLSS Quality with my RTX 4080. So to maintain 60fps i need to change Indirect Lighting to High. I'd suggest doing that for those areas. But i usually have it set that way everywhere for reduced wattage. Base fps seems decent i might add and cpu usage is pretty low as below.

Great game & visuals but for this level of graphics, 60fps is NOT satisfactory on a high end system. I am sure the Devs will respond and advise that full optimization is incoming before the 1.0 release.

this game heats my CPU up to 90-95 degrees no matter how low I put the settings, even if I cap frame rate at 30. I can't even play it.

Something seriously wrong with your cooling then. Mine as pic shows is 49C. Granted i have seen as high as 64c with relatively low cpu usage. Maybe they're using AVX. /shrug

I agree with you. But for early access it's not bad at all.

True but let's be honest, what are the chances of it being fixed later? History of EA game releases that have had poor performance to be "optimised later" rarely ever do so.
I hope for the best, but it is now that people should be pushing for it to be fixed because it sure won't happen later.

That is not true, I can see a specific situation because in pc gaming that's always a thing, but not any game. I don't have one game on C:, and hundreds on D:-J:.

I think I'm seeing another issue where starting a game it randomly runs at say 1/2 FPS so I ave to restart. This is something new and the latest Win11 update, there's been reports of stalling/slowing in app's at least on the business end, wondering if that is causing the random issue I'm seeing in several games.

Can people please stop spewing what some guys said on the internet. Having the games files on "the same drive" is going to jack all unless that steam install drive has higher IOPS and/or lower latency than the alternative drive or is running from a slower bus.
Period. Nothing else is going to have a storage access impact other than that.

And still to this day people move the game files back to same drive as Steam and it resolves issues. I talk enough on steam discussions to see it's still happening. But we're talking about alleviating stuttering specifically. And huge lag should not happen as Sorrel suggests. If that happens i'd look at your hardware. Run some benchmarks and dpclatencymon and find and correct your issues.

No...they wont. The devs like to make little cute posts as the first comment when they post events or updates. Thats about it.

Disconcerting... my comment was meant for the Devs to see and react accordingly... Let's hope they do then.

Yeah I'm experienced enough to know yeah this is happening to some and just think if there is a systems issue and it happens to a lot of ones game, you start to think a game needs to be on the same drive as steam and it's a steam issue, but really its a systems issue of some sort. However I'm confident on most systems that you don't have to worry about this. Sure to anyone who's unhappy and tried everything, give it a shot.
