It may be that frost/cold is treated like shroud so you cannot build in an area covered by it an can only build below the frost zone altitude wise.
I haven't built anything in the new biome yet, but the fireplaces are marked as having different levels of frost resistance - do they not work?
They work, but they only increase the available time a bit.
I'm not sure what the intended purpose of the fireplaces that give the extra cold resist are.
Quickly spawn in base and run out with added bonus? That seems gamey and dumb if you can't even live in a house you've made.
I have a suspicion that it's either:
A. An oversight that they don't keep your house warm and safe.
B. A value that was supposed to be hidden, but is there because those fireplaces spawned in ruins or camps can give you a bit more cold resist as you pass by.
If you sit in front of a fireplace or otherwise be in the vicinity of one it should cancel out the frost timer - or at least keep it from counting down (similar to how standing next to a respawn point in the Shroud prevents the shroud timer from counting down).
I had the same plan, and now I am heavily disappointed.
I have not yet upgraded the altar to the maximum level. Lower than the maximum does not give immunity.
