Then I put everything else so far into warrior/tank for more dmg and hp. Sword and Shield are tried and true and have yet to let me down.
In its current state I don't believe magic is worthwhile as the spells are finite/pain to craft.
That opinion may change later on but I just beat the capital city boss, so I am kind of midway through the game so far (lvl 17).
Current play through I'm doing a ranger and absolutely loving it, but I'm not playing solo this time around. So I can't say for certain how viable it is solo.
Tank/warrior with 2 handed jump attack is good, so is going sword and board. My gf is sword and board and so far (lvl 25 currently) she hardly takes damage and still dishes out a decent amount.
You can respect at any time, so play with the skills and weapons until you find what you like. You can always respec again if you don't like it.
I'm currently lvl 28 on my main, mostly ranger but skipping multishot as maybe it's just me but it feels like the proc causes shots to miss unless they're REALLY close. Going into assassin to get the explosive boost (dunno if it helps but feels like it might be) and into survivor to pick up Vukah culture. I also grabbed Mason because I do A LOT of mining, far more than wood chopping. https://enshrouded-skill-tree.com/?shortCode=675ca4416854ac73c51d2d68
I do as much kiting as I can or even abusing the terrain to get a vantage I can't be reached as this build excels (for me) in the mantra of "Don't need armor if you don't get hit" lol.
And explosive boost is amazing to destroy mobs, very helpful, every one of those pacify skills too, vukah less than animals, animals pacified and helping are amazing hehehe.
You will get hit eventually, and the points you need to get some tank abilities are not much, so late game invest some on constitution and protection.
