Not why ... how. Your game is saved locally. Dedicated servers the game is saved on the dedicated server. They have no control over my save game.
This question is actually comical.
A for one have my steam set to update only when I say too. Nothing updates automatically. If an update was to break my save game. I simply wouldn't update.
I did this with Skyrim for years. I honestly don't know anyone personally that allows games to update automatically due to game breaking patches.
I hadn't thought of that. When they revamp any area, which is kind of like a soft wipe. They have done that before. People lost bases. I had a base above one of the Hallow Halls. Now some of the people I play with can't teleport to the Altar because of this.
So, in short. I wouldn't be worried about save games getting wiped. I'd be more worried about them revamping something and killing off your base that way.
