Cat Search difficulty

I know wrangling cats in real life is difficult but trying to tame the cat for the quest is near impossible.

Yeah, after playing the new update for 6 or so hours, that is what got me to leave the game. It is ridiculous. Other pets you just feed them once and pet them and they're yours forever. But the cat, nope. I spent about a half hour, ran through most of my bait, and said screw it.

The cat always has an exclamation point and by the time you get done petting it, the cat exclamation point is filled again. Crouching doens't matter

the answer is hiding behind something while it does the eating and them walk up to it while sneaking.

You have to be on like behind a wall corner super close to it while its already eating and can't see you.

yeah i'm gonna skip this one. Thought it was cute but the tediousness of it is too much.

Hi! I was the co-op buddy who was trying to tame the cat with Alethia. We spent a stupid amount of time chasing it around the tower. It was infuriating and any progress would be erased by a single misstep and the exclamation mark that you can't outrun. By pure chance it eventually leapt off the top of the building out of desperation, and landed on a storage shelf outside. It was trapped there for about twenty minutes with my adventuring buddy, with an exclamation point, but finally unable to run. Long enough for me to travel home, gather meat, and craft more bait.

I teleport back while poster is afk and it slides off the crate and begins a calm ahh walk directly into the shroud. I panicked and threw bait and it happened to keep rolling down the path in front of the cat. If this series of fortunate events and perfect conditions hadn't happened, we never would have completed this quest.

Let's not exaggerate. I managed to catch the cat on the first attempt after 10 minutes

It took me at least 20 minutes, and used about 20 cat bait working out a strategy. I had him to 2 hearts twice and both times I lost 1+ hearts and had to regain the hearts back.

I had serious doubts it was worth the trouble by the end.

My husband and I spent quite some time trying to get the dog yesterday night. I did exactly what was written: pet the dog while he's eating, stand still if it shows a ? and withdraw when he shows a !

Honestly I don't get it. There's hearts in white, yellow and red. Some only have outlines, others are filled. I always got the first heart filled, but the second one never worked. He would get that exclamation mark, I would withdraw but the dog would run off. This process repeated numerous times. What are we missing?

I got the cat ok, Just back off after you've stroked it. Trying to find stinging nettles for its food is an absolute joke though!!

I think I'm struggling with the fact of being old and not very gaming experienced. To me it often sounds like yes, there's three steps in the manual, but besides you have to do a hand stand, whistle a certain tune and then jump upon a roof. Easy to figure out. I think younger people can't even imagine a life without computer and internet. I got my first Atari in 1988 and my first internet in 1997. It was a very complicated, slow and expensive mess. So, for my age I went along with new technologies from early on, but still it's SUCH a difference compared to younger generations. Anyway I'll stop ranting now and hoping I might get the hang of taming dogs and cats somewhen :)

I found some at the base of Revelwood tower. You may want to go to setting and turn off "small foliage" to make it easier to spot. Not much but its there

I struggled with it a bit at first. After it's eaten a bait, stay crouched and move in the opposite direction the cat is moving if it starts moving towards you. You want to be a certain distance behind it and there will be a ? above its head when you're closing enough to throw a bait but far enough not to spook it while crouched. Then throw a bait in front of it again and do what you did before and repeat ;)

I'm very sure this is bugged and also reported it as a bug. Because sometimes it works as intended and sometimes it just doesn't.

Like, sometimes you throw bait, go hide, wait, crouch closer while she eats, then she gets a question mark, you turn around and walk a few steps away, question mark disappears, she starts eating again, you approach and pet her and get away immediately afterwards without anything happening.
And sometimes you can't make a single step into her attention radius without getting the exclamation mark and no matter how often you try and from what angles you approach, it keeps being like this until she finishes the bait. And yes, sometimes she also gets the exclamation mark immediately after petting with no chance of getting away in time.

Only thing I can recommend is bringing a lot of bait and letting her eat up if the bug is happening and trying again with another bait until it works. Also try to approach her from behind and hide behind the stairs or other structures.
And if this is too frustrating for you, wait until keen has fixed this.

15 minutes to clearly understand how to act, then everything is easy. Where can you catch a black dog and a light cat?
