This happend to me after the first big Update. Dangers of EA games.
Quote Mama Kira (Helper on the Enshrouded Discord):
"It's been discovered that this issue is (primarily if not solely) effecting people whose steam is installed on a HDD drive instead of an SSE and the game is installed on a separate SSD.
While the devs are aware of this issue, and this information (when they get into work) - I am unsure as to how long it will take for them to discover exactly what is happening and to be able to fix it, so we have tested a fix here that, so far, has worked for everyone with the issue.
If you choose to do this, to fix the freezing/stuttering issue, you will need to uninstall steam from your HDD and reinstall it on the same SSD as you have enshrouded installed.
(I am uncertain as to whether this issue affects people who have the game installed on an HDD, since the minimum requirements for the game ask for an SSD, and no one I have come across has had it installed on an HDD.)"
