Weapon damage question...
Hello, I"m getting close to the end I believe and I never understood the weapon damage. I'm talking about 1H weapons in this case. So, if a weapon has a base damage of say 40 and it has +10 fire damage on it, is 50 what the actual damage is? If so, it seems off from the damage numbers I see when I hit. Now I understand there are modifiers like Strength adds 5% per point. I guess my problem is that I see people posting things like "best 1H swords" and they have less damage than other swords yet they are top 5 on most people's list.

Also, I have items and such which boost my crit chance % but it's not reflected when I look at my character stats.

Regardless, love this game. I had a lot of fun with it. Dev's did a great job of pacing things and bottlenecks that stop you from just blowing through it all.

Fairly sure we don't have enough data for an accurate result.

With a pure 1 type dmg it should be simple:
Weapon has 40 dmg, you got 20 str, nothing else.
So your weapon should hit for 80 dmg, but we don't know enemy armor/dmg reduction.

Now the on the weapon displayed dmg only changes if its level does.
The +dmg unlockables don't change it, neither do skills.

Now if you got a mixed dmg, it gets more complicated.
The magic +dmg in the mage skill tree don't affect the elemental dmg on a melee weapon and i'm unsure if str does affect it either.

Then theres the skill issue. Some weapons have their dmg split across 3 physical dmg types, requiring you to spend a lot of points to boost all 3. It might be psychological only to prefer a weapon that requires only 1 boost.
And the second skill issue, iirc the 1h melee speed skill only says +speed for axes and swords. Does that mean maces/hammers are inherently worse as they don't get the boost or is it just written wrong?

And lastly, do you rather have a weapon with +25% crit or idk +40 (~100%) dmg? Which is stronger?

Hey, appreciate the reply and the info! I'm very picky when it comes to knowing what damage different weapons do even if it's just a DPS stat somewhere. I guess for now I will just add the base weapon damage with whatever +damage stats it has. The crit% doesn't seem to be accurate. It definitely is not calculating everything like gear or skills

In regards to your question, it would depend. I love crit chance%. I'd have to do the math on that one to see and calculate whatever skills or perks that might boost numbers

I'm real close to the end now. Really enjoyed this game.
