Strong constraint, improved altar of flame
That's it, I think a lot of people like me have been disappointed when we remove an altar from the flame, we have to start all over again, to improve the new one, it's very restrictive if we have to remove the altar from the flame to place it better.

At the moment, we can't move a flame altar without dismantling it. Could this be reviewed?

Another idea is that, as we already have an improved altar, if we were to make another one, couldn't it match the level of our first altar?

I moved my base 4 times now (keep finding a better place) which I need to farm material to upgrade the radius each time.

while on one hand, I do agree that we should keep it, but on the flip side (resource management and planning) I do not because it means you have to pre-gather materials before moving and thus force to choose and plan more than go on a whim.

but that is just me :)

Really? The mats are nothing to upgrade it's size. Maybe farm a tiny amount or stop constantly moving your base?

Except that the problem is that when an altar is deleted, it asks you to pick up a mist heart again for the first altar upgrade, whereas the game has stayed on the second quest which asks for sparks, for the quest, it acts as if our first upgraded altar still exists.

I'm still at my first base and unless I'm mistaken, I don't get the impression that the first place where you find the first heart of mist resets following the removal of the altar. I think there's something to be reviewed here.

You should keep in mind, though, that the save system designed around the fixed point, from which the volume of Base is calculated and changes are preserved. And this point is the Flame Altar. :bonfire2:

I have never upgraded my base past level 3 (you need 16 cores to make lvl 4, but only 6 to make lvl 3). Face it, lvl 3 is pretty darn big unless you are remaking a village, so I havent felt a need to make that commitment. (And if you are remaking a village you'd be crazy to move your altar afterwards).

At this point I make 5-6 shroud cores a day just while traveling around (if I got serious I'd farm the Pike beast for 21+ in 30 min since he gives 3 at a time).

lvl 4 = 16 cores = 160x160x160 = 4 million cubic (meters?)
lvl 3 = 6 cores = 120x120x120 = 1.7 million cubic meters
2 lvl 3s side by side takes 12 cores and gives 3.4 million cubic meters, and makes a 240x120x120 rectangle (which could be useful instead of going to lvl4)

I guess what I am saying is... I dont see the concern? And that for the vast majority of folks I doubt that the expensive lvl4 approach is needed? I mean 16 cores is a big deal at the begining... but you dont stay a beginner forever.

I would like to be able to keep my flame altar at the same level if I need to move it. I expanded my base and now the altar isn't where I want it. my base is currently bigger than the starter size of 40x40 so if I were to remove it and it placed an upgraded one I assume I would lose all the parts of my base that are outside the 40x40.

Yes and No.

If you move your core and place it down and UPGRADE before you relog/quit, then you are ok. Once you relog without an altar, anything NOT within the alter's range will be reset.

So. if you upgrade to level 4 and want to move the alter 6 spaces to the left because it is better, you CAN, just install another one, upgrade it, and take out the old one.

Now if you do not have a spare, you CAN take out the old one and replace the new one, but do not relog. (I tested it while inside a mountain)

Yes, if you are bigger than a lvl 1 40x40 and replace it with a 40x40 you will lose whatever you did outside the new 40x40 that you chose to use. You wont lose it right away but if you leave the area (or restart) it will happen at some point. alters can overlap their area so you can put down the 2nd altar (and grow its size if you want) before you remove the original altar.

But to be clear, you are never "moving" an altar; you are either replacing it with another in a slightly different place/size, or destroying it entirely. When an altar is destroyed you lose the ingredients you invested to make its size larger. And my point earlier/above is... thats not a very big deal, IMO.

I don't have the materials to upgrade it so it stays put for now. LOL

I was wanting to put it in the basement and move it so that the current outline of my building space is exactly where I want it. Eventually I will get there. Right now it is right inside the entrance to my longhouse and a bit off center. It's preventing me from putting pillars where I want and organizing my home.

You can put two alters near each other, to make a large rectangular area.
