Damage type confusion
So there are all physical damage types in the skill tree for the warrior, slashing for swords, piercing for daggers and perhaps arrows, dunno and blunt for maces and clubs.

Now as shown on the first screenshot, the mace actually does only blunt damage with makes perfect sense:

But for some reason the sword, does slashing, piercing and blunt damage while it should only do slashing damage since its a blade and neither a hammer nor a needle.

So while a blunt weapon user can pretty much skill bunt damage and safe the other skill points to get the best damage bonus on his melee attacks, the sword fighter has to waste skill points in all three damage types for the same outcome.

Having one damage type allows you to specialize, but can be a problem if you encounter an enemy resistant to that damage type. A weapon that does multiple damage types makes it harder to min/max, but allows you to still do damage when an enemy is resistant to one but not the others. The weapons all show what damage type they do, so you can choose accordingly. I would assume it's for versatility.

Well you can easily carry three different weapons with you to switch in case your enemy shows a resistance, but if your enemy is vulnerable to slashing and your sword does only a third of the damage a mace would do, because of versatility plus you only have skilled slashing damage so your swords blunt and piercing damage get no boost, kind of seems unfair to me. If the enemy is immun to slashing damage in that example and you then switching to a full blunt weapon you have no skillpoint in is still better than using your sword wich does to a third a damage that the enemy is immun to.

And if said enemy is immun to blunt, you can only do piercing and slasshing damage against him, makes the sword in compare to a mace much less effective against its specific damage type vulnerable enemy counterpiece.

I'm not a melee person so haven't paid as much attention to melee weapons, but I think there ARE different swords that specialize. So far it looks to me like weapons that look cool are less effective than weapons which are basic. When I log in I'm going to take a look at the weapons I have in storage. I'm pretty sure there are swords that just do cutting damage.

Swords in RL can easily do both piercing and slashing/cutting and depending on how skilled the swordsman is also blunt (for instance with a pommel strike).

And some maces in RL and in the game as well do both blunt and piercing (think about all those spikes on a morningstar). So to maximize those weapons you would need to take both the piercing and the blunt perks.

As to perks there are only two specifically for each damage type while the others are 'melee' in general.

You can easily get by taking only one of the three perk 'limbs' for the specific damage types, but getting all of them makes you more versatile.

You should really watch some episodes of "Forged in Fire". You will relatively quick realize that sword may be used to be thrusted through your enemy (piercing), surely slicing (as you already mentioned) and even blunt is not a problem at all when hitting enemies not with the phase but instead of the flat side of your sword.

So, i am sorry to say, but you are wrong.

Pretty much the same for all fighting types. All 3 have 3 major types. Melee and Ranged have the typical Slash, Blunt and Pierce, while the Magic users get Lightning, Fire and Ice. All 3 types are required to fight specific things, regardless of which combat type you use, so there's really not anything unfair about it.

i have found through alot of testing that piercing is the universally most damageing. all except for hollow halls
