Character gone?

I haven't seen anything in the patch notes, does it mention anywhere that they removed player data during one of the patches? I played a character to max level when the game came out and then took a break. Started the game again yesterday to try out the new content but was greeted with the screen to create a new character and my old one was gone, including the worlds I had started.

No, I didn't touch the game at all after I stopped playing.

Did you enable or disable Steam Cloud for Enshrouded between your gaming sessions?

I've started playing Enshrouded with Steam Cloud enabled. After disabling Steam Cloud (because of reasons) everything was "gone". Re-enabling Steam Cloud "brought everything back".
And with "brought everything back" I do not mean, it downloaded it from the cloud (therefore the quotation marks). The game just looked in a different location for the saved data. I still have two different sets of characters and worlds, depending on whether I enable or disable Steam Cloud.

There are two locations the game might save data and on my system it depends on whether Steam Cloud is enabled or disabled.

Maybe it also matters if you're in online or offline mode, because of access to Steam Cloud? But that's just a guess.

That was it, I had disabled Steam Cloud and forgot to turn it back on.
