Really excited to see Townsfolk in the future
So I recently got reminded this game exists and re checked it out, saw the roadmap and was super excited to see townsfolk npcs on there. One of the reasons I never got this game was that during steam next fest I ended up playing two demos that REALLY made me realise why so many survival crafter games felt "wrong" to me. Those were Omega Crafter and Soulmask, both of which featured NPC automation to different extents. While the automation systems in those is great, what I really appreciated more so was the amount of life it brought to the bases. I think this was a huge realization for me, I love the genre but I wanted to build bases that felt alive, and felt like there was meaning to building what felt like a small town. Hell even something like Satisfactory which doesn't have any NPCs DOES have a lot of moving parts that make it come alive and eventually automated vehicles that really make the world feel active.

While I realise the game does have some town NPCs atm, they are glorified crafting benches and never move from that spot. This is better then nothing, but I really don't think I'll buy the game until the townsfolk are in. While I hope the townsfolk aren't so static, even if they are, just the ability to add life around that isn't just sitting at a crafting bench would be such a key feature for me. I'd LOVE to see proper NPCs with crafting and gathering tasks, would really love to see something like Soulmask with customizable task lists but also lots of idle behaviours and interactions, but I'll take placeable random "decorative" townsfolk.

Anyways just want to give a thumbs up to the devs for the roadmap. Game looking like a future buy for sure.

I really hope they bring what you think. But after the last new NPC addition, i wouldn't bet all my hopes on it.

I still think the game is great. But yeah, NPC's who walk a bit and fake interact with each other would be such a cool addition.

Ya honestly, I REALLY hope that they do at least that at a minimum. I mean like I said, static NPCs that I can place just for cosmetics IS enough for me to be satisfied, but I hope they go beyond that. I'm not expecting much from it, but walking around and interacting with things would do a LOT for making things feel alive. If they had some basic automation stuff it'd probably be an instant buy from me, otherwise it's probably gonna be wait for a sale or buy when I don't have any other games on the go.

I really do think Soulmask is a great example of getting a lot out of a relatively simple system. It would be my inspiration or starting point for NPCs personally were I trying to make a survival crafter. It's really just assign a list of tasks and that acts as a priority system for each NPC. If all tasks are done they just go chill at the base and use different furniture. But the priority task list basically allows them to make a bunch of simple independent subroutines that can be combined easily to really make things flow. If they got anything approaching that I think this game would become a BIG mainstay for me.
