I think it would be nice if we could just place down a 4x4 farm tiles that can interconnect with other farm tiles.
It would be a pre-made object, and I could just press a key to automatically plant seeds in the area around me. Then, pressing another key could harvest the plants nearby.
Just something that doesn't force me to spamclick hundreds of times on some dirt.
Nevertheless, a better solution from harvesting and planting would be nice even if I don't need it so much now I have pretty much everything in abundance.
Have you seen those menus? They are obviously developing the game against any reasonable convenience or best praxises. xD
But yeah, i agree. Things like area-loot should be in the game since it released and the same goes for "hold MB for planting seeds" - i think it would also be neat for throwing bombs and stuff like that.
I think there are plenty of options to solve the tedium of farming.
They could allow us to set up "field" zones, or tiles as someone suggested above, to make it easier/faster to plant and harvest.
They could have the NPCs plant and harvest for us. We could select what crop goes in each zone or field tile area, and the NPCs would do the rest until they run out of the resources they need. All the crafting stations work automatically, or are instant, so why not automate this?
They could modify the planters to produce both fully grown plants and seedlings instead of only producing seedlings. They could cap each planter so we couldn't produce huge amounts of a specific plant unless we build multiple planters.
They could increase the yield from each plant but slow down its growth, this would mean less planting and harvesting.
That is not the solution to that problem.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 made Scarecrows that act as the middle fields. Actually, that game has many good NPC mechanics for this type of setup.
