Why do we use blocks to build?
So i'm enjoying the game, but i don't understand the purpose of using raw materials to make building blocks and then use those blocks to build structures, i just feel like there's an unnecessary step, you should be able to use the raw materials directly with the building tool IMHO.

Because the blocks are made out of several materials, with a different ratio (to make 100 blocks of X take 20 from A, 10 from B and 3 from C for example).

And some materials for blocks are not natural, you have to craft them first, like bricks from clay. So it depends on the game mechanic that you have to do a intermediate step, so you can even use very small 1x1 blocks - what would they substract from your inventory for a 1x1 roof brick? 1/16 clay?

You can use terrain materials to build too, but they'll obviously look accordingly like terrain. The blocks you build have different textures, which you also can mix and match to your liking. If you think that's an unnecessary step then try to build more than a dirt square as a base.

Thats called immersion - also it wouldnt make sense since you can still use the natural materials aswell to build.

Why are so many people so eager to streamline almost anything in games - this is a survival crafting game - those games are known for crafting and making it as immersive as possible while not tedious.

I also dont get your point in general there are a lot of versions of wood and stone - what exactly would you build if you mine 2 stone?

I would like to see custom blocks, or custom templates. Perhaps the Carpenter sends you on a quest for some plans for a project that his mentor was working on. It would allow you to create your own custom work block. Using different blocks, create your own design templates. Your own 4x4 walls, 2x2 walls, stairs, doorways, etc.. You build them, then set the template. And you can use them to ore quickly create your own custom house without spending hours painstakingly customizing currently.

If devs would ask 1000 people, they will get 1001 different answers what "people would like to see". I guess you have to deal with the current system.

Deal with the current system? How on earth did you take my comment as a negative against the game? I'm referring to future updates.
It would really suck to have to dig up thousands of stone and wood to make buildings.

It works just like it works in real life, to a degree. You can dig up clay and build a simple clay hut, which will shelter you but also, it won't look all that nice. If you want a nicer-looking house, you'll have to form the clay into bricks and either dry them or - so they don't dissolve into mud when it's raining - bake them to make them more durable.

You can of course, just use random rocks you find all around to build a shelter but, once again, it will look a lot nicer if you shape those rocks into nice building blocks.

Same in Enshrouded.

See now this answer makes some sense, thanks.

I love the building system here. Although I have a small criticism. When building using Weathered Stone or City Wall block, There are missing tiles and rubble that can't be removed or fixed. It would be cool to see a future addition that will let you build the pristine.

Also, I would also like to see another addition to the building menu. Under Terrain, have another with stuff like Green Ivy, Dead Ivy, Green Moss, Yellow Moss, different kinds of Cracks, and such.

You can do this by applying dirt or flower soil to a building using the wedge shape, and then remove most of it back.
I just tried it. Gee, that is really finicky and with random results. But, it is an option. Thanks

this is dumb imo and it sucks to build in this game. im not even going to bother with building because its done so over the top what the hell was the creator thinking if at all? the one reason i got this game and they make the building absolute garbage.

i think its nice that you can use some of the terrain tools to shape your existing blocks to create diff shapes. Taking a square doorway and rounding it out with the terrain shapes. Kind of like you can do to make rounded gnome doorways for underground shelters. Would like to see more shaping objects in the terrain selection.

Just use the template pieces? No one is forcing you to actually build things detailed. You can just live in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ MC like cube if you want to. Complaining about too much possibilities is really some weird type of nagging.
zombygunner Mar 23, 2024 @ 11:47am
I never said anyone is forcing me. No other survival or crafting game that ive played has you build like this and imo there is no reason for it other than them wanting to be different. To many possibilities can make things over done and make the game a chore to figure out. Ive seen more help building videos on yt about this game than anything else so im not alone in this thats for sure. Im also not the only one to say the building needs work but im glad everything is ok for you and your lone opinion.
