The further you get in the game, the more different resources you will find (and also need to make better arrows, for example). Each biome has different resources which you can only find there. This will automatically tempt you to advance to other areas. Different recipes also require ingredients from different sources, which means you will be traveling to different biomes again and again to farm resources.
Greetz
But you can also prevent the world from respawning in your 8 flame altar zones (max perimeter 160x160x160 each). So if you connect your 8 altar perimeter you have a real big area, where you can build big castles and towns, dig deep in the mines of moria, collect ressources, that don't respawn, cut trees, that don't regrow or form a big stone like the sphinx in egypt.
Is there any benefit to returning to past defeated bosses? For example, I kill the first boss, and then progress a dozen levels. Do I get anything better if I return and kill the boss again at the higher skill level?
No you get the same random level 3 loot (normal, epic or legendary) everytime you kill the first "miniboss" at the shroud well root. EDIT: And one of this blue "miasma souls", so you can farm this item if you need one.
This game was designed for many people to play one server and to share progress... having a world that doesn't regenerate chunks would play against that concept.
or put week or month cycle like 7 days to die loot respawn every 7 days in base game setting, and every time i play with friends i put this settings to 30 days ( in game ) to force the exploration of the map )
the instant respawn ruin the fun from my point of view
