Wand nerfs....sigh...why???
As if playing a mage wasn't hard enough...the range on our wands is terrible, staffs don't have the same range as a bow, so you are forced to carry a bow for buttons. Mages have two fuel requirements - Spell ammo and mana and armor for mages is basically useless if you get an enemy in your face...heaven help you if it's a green bladed guy.

Now wands break far too fast...and no increase to range or power. With the improvements to AI pathing and jumping, the green blades mean 100% death loops....welp time to respect into a ranger I guess.

What are you smoking? Mages are still very strong, too strong tbh.

Use eternal spells, fireball can hit buttons.

Haven't gotten into the update just yet but you're insane if you think mages were hard to play. They were objectively the most busted playstyle between spells that can one-shot basically any enemy and wands that were effectively infinite, dealt big damage, and can be used to cheese enemies by jumping on top of structures or spamming jump to increase the rate you fire them.

This was seriously funny and it gave me a great laugh ty.

but i gotta say, I try to keep a variety of wands when playing now, that's the real only thing because enemies have different resistances anyways. but yeah i understand where you're coming from.

for the green axe guys, you block then get in 1 attack then block right away - its just timing and not trying to get in multiple attacks (you can occasionally do so, but you get pummeled if you get the timing wrong). shield takes a beating though, and it will break after 2 or 3 I think (I was using a 1-h sword with shield, and it broke on the 4th one I stood and blocked instead of backing out of range). I can't remember any time I faced more than 1 green axe guy at once.

there will always be masochists for whom it will still not be enough. Why should you have fun playing a game when you can get pissed off?

Yeah, this is what will need to be done...as if my inventory wasn't full enough...The biggest issue is that there is very little help for early game mages...sure once you are lvl 25, and everything is unlocked...yep...lots of power, but try playing the game as a pure mage from lvl 1...it is hard mode. Wands did not need a durability nerf...they need a range buff and more skills that buff wand and staff useage for early to mid game.

I'm lvl 18 and playing a pure mage. The only eternal spell I've found is the eternal ice spell which just doesn't do enough damage. I know there are other eternal spells but I have 3/4 of the map explored and this is what I've got. Also, mana is a serious handycap to spells...I can shoot maybe 5 shots and mana is gone...drink a potion and 5 more shots...by the time I have maybe half of that done the ranger I'm playing with has killed everything on screen from a million miles away.

The mage should be equal to the ranger as far as range for at least some spells. At this point it feels like the game encourages you to play ranger for the early game and then try other things when you reach max level and have unlocked options.

I don't think that was what the devs intended, but that's the reality.

You are just so very wrong or just very bad. Possibly both. I was killing in the 30 zones at level 4.

Mana is a non issue even without talents as you can get wands with mana regen on them. I've not once used a mana potion on my mage only the elixir for more damage. Also the fact you think the game pushes you to go ranger is just extra hilarious.

It's not reality, it's your warped idea. Mages are still the most OP class/spec.

Playing a mage is hard? Whoa, didn't know that, I've been doing it wrong I guess.

Or--more likely the truth here--is that this is a thinly veiled jester farm post. Meh, no jesters for you, I'm not a fan of spam posts for farming purposes.

In my experience, doing a pure mage is doing yourself a disservice if you're rightfully ignoring other trees that could help your survival.
While its not needed, a single point in tank could really help if you're struggling early on.
Food buffs are usually enough though

Yeah, wands break to easy. Or we over-use them so it seems that way. Carry a back-up wand. Short range - learn to continuously back up and dodge to keep the range open. If in facetank range, having your shield up constantly (vs. how it works for melee) is the secret to survival. Your staff range complaint is just wrong, you can totally hit buttons. Arrows are hella cheaper though until you start using eternal spells. :-)

and people wonder why the community is toxic...your mileage may vary but personal insults just get you blocked and reported. I get that people don't understand game criticisms...people love to ree at anyone for anything...don't like a change in mechanics...well just git gud and be better...I disagree with a mechanic change and gave feedback. In our playthrough, mages lag behind rangers in almost every aspect. This is our feedback. Nerfing wands wasn't needed. Super happy for you if you find the mage better than anything else. In our opinion, that is not the case.

Staff and buttons...not all buttons...several places the ranger has had to hit the button as the staff couldn't reach.
