Blocking Bug or Feature?
I can't quite figure out the internal mechanisms for blocking. Pressing and holding block prior to previous animations ending will not engage block no matter how long you hold it down.

Example. I attack. Animation or cool down or whatever requires .45 seconds before I can block again. I press and hold block at the .4 second mark (meaning too early). I can hold block down for another 4 DAYS, the shield never comes back up. (I can only confirm this for 10-15 seconds, but I'm extrapolating).

The exception of course is for wands (because why not?)

This leads to spamming it hoping to sneak a block in between animations, which of course leads to second guessing the timing, dropping a block just in time to get tagged in the face just in time to get the block back up while they're not attacking.

This doesn't matter against one or two guys, I can work around it, but against a flurry from 4 baddies and I just get frustrated.

Perhaps relatedly, I have this same issue with direction keys and LMB for tools. I can't figure out what causes it but I will occasionally exit a menu, press and hold 'w' before the menu is fully dropped, but don't move. I can hold down 'w' for hours if I want. I don't go anywhere. Same for chopping a tree or pickaxing. Sometimes I hold it down and it repeats the action, sometimes its one and done.

The game does not seem to be checking in the background to see if the input is active and then engaging it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I have experienced exactly the same thing as you. Frustrating for sure, not sure if it's intentional. Fingers crossed it gets addressed if it's a bug.

Heh... well, Enshrouded isn't exactly a hack and slash game IMO :D You should be in trouble when facing 4 flurry guys.

Also the crushing blows that 2h Knigths use that damages you in the lower lvls, get more blockable as you rise in lvl. So I would say the mechanics are working relatively fine. You just have to figure them out and not wanting fast take downs all the time.

Combat is super janky right now, yeah. I can't see them leaving it as-is before releasing the game properly.

With my Mage and Wand works. Can hold down right mouse all time in fight. With melee don't work. However a bug.

Inputs in general are pretty bad. There is really no way to tell if something will happen. I have issues with blocking, cancelling flight, dodging etc. Not stamina related.

Yeah, it's pretty random. Sometimes the shield will drop immediately, even out of combat, and other times it will stay in blocking position. I have noticed that my character's footing seems to matter. If his feet are not flat on the ground, the shield will often drop, but this isn't always the case, so who knows. It is annoying, and "Raise your damn shield" is the most common thing I yell at this game.

Love it when I mis-time the block for the first part of a multi-hit attack, and while still holding the block button down my character just stands there and eats the next three hits straight to the face. The whole blocking/attacking thing definitely needs tightening up as it just feels horrible to play as melee right now.
Failing to block is just one of the ways the character fails to keep up with me, but it's certainly the most common. The game really doesn't like interrupting or transitioning between animations. This combined with a general absence of flinching/stuns/crowd control makes it very difficult to be proactive in melee.

Early days still, and KG is working with their own engine. I expect they'll get this issue hammered out in time.

Yep, this is very annoying - I have the same issue as everyone else, it makes melee much more dangerous especially later in game where blocking becomes absolutely a mess for melee.

It wouldn't be quite as bad if it also went the other way around, that is, you are still blocking while the un-blocking animation is completing, but no, as soon as you let go of the button, you're no longer blocking at all.

Sorry for regurgitating this topic but it's really becoming an issue. Blocking feels -extremely- unreliable. It fails half of the time because when i press block while the 'lower shield anim' is still playing, it completely ignores my key presses. Holding block until after the animation completed does nothing until i click it again.
Pressing block should cancel out the majority of the other actions/animations. Holding block should result in raising the shield at every possible opportunity, while im holding. Please!
