Are mages still OP?
New player here. I plan to start playing co-op with a friend. and wanted to play mage. I've read this is too much of a breathe/broken but also that some of his spells were nerfed.

Is it in a good place now or should I stay away from that class for now?

I don't know. I'm lvl25 and I went all blue (magic) on skill points and have to regularly be revived up by the ranger or tank in my group.

You can just nuke everything from range. Besides a few things, you should be able to soak two hits and barly survive.

You could even do melee fights reasonably well, as long as you got a shield.

If you are being revived you are playing a turret not a mage. get to a place they cant reach and nuke them its stupid easy.

To answer poster, its not really that mages are op, range is op mages are gods at range and can just sit not being attacked and then nuke the area, melee is horrible by comparison.

I don't play magic but from what I have seen on youtube compared to my maxed out warrior tank combo, the wand and staff are twice as powerful. The Red mushroom guys kill me but three swipes with a wand and they are dead. Either nerf the absurd OP magic stuff or buff the bow.

the short answer is : YES.

mage is still OP as ♥♥♥♥. the water aura nerf didnt only effect mages. mage has not gotten any real nerfs as of yet. shroud weaver loseing its 10 level advantage was a bugfix and has nothing to do with nerfing mage as a class. as a class its still grossly OP compared to others.

that beeing said : it doesnt matter currently as game is in generel way too easy.

Since I finished every activity on the current game, I switched to a magic build, and even with unoptimized equipment and no buffs, it absolutely obliterates several enemies at a time.

Water Aura must have been really broken before, because the current iteration I found to be really helpful.

Yes, mages are OP. More importantly, Melee in general definitely needs a rebalance, it lags way far behind everything else in damage and you have to hybridize stamina and health to be effective, whereas mages can focus hard on mana and spells.

I've been loving my warrior build coming from the glass cannon mage build.
And i've hit over 500 dmg with a sword swing with my lvl 15 purple sword, *(outlier, but still feels good)
I'm like 23 swinging my lvl 15 sword, I need an upgrade and since i kill most things in 3-4 hits, or roughly 1-2 seconds, I never felt weak. I actually think I'd feel pretty powerful If i could find a 1h'er my lvl, but no. all I seem to get are wands and bows. and i've purposefully never touched a magical item this run.

About 4x as strong, stacking with multiple mages too. 23 int, 2hps per int +20% because of must pick healer = 55hps. Then there's healer armor buffing it further

Sheep are kind of hard to hit as the wandorb is slow. Its doable.
Fortunatly enemies don't run away.

Levels doesn't determined strength. The amount of skill points determine your true power.
Id say they are pretty OP still. I mainly play melee at level 25 and the dmg as a wizard is still pretty darn good. Given I dont even have any skill points in the wizard tree but I can still swap out to my mage weapon and deal massage damage mid fight.

Dumb take. There is such a thing, acid bite is absurd and is so strong people who don't want to feel like cheating can't even use the ability.

No mages are not op. Melee fighters are just too weak atm. They are in dire need of a big buff in damage output and weapon durability and archers need to be able to make more arrows per craft otherwise they spend more time farming mats for arrows than anything else. Especially feather farming is a pain. A tiny buff to bows wouldn´t hurt either. Having to headshot lategame enemies a dozen time is not exactly fun and a huge waste of arrows.

I'll agree with it, besides mages not beeing OP.
They are way over the top.
