The developers released a statement early on acknowledging the problem and urging the community to backup their worlds and only play on password protected servers for the time being until they can implement such in-game server protection capabilities.
I am personally really sorry multiple players have had this experience in Enshrouded (in your case at least it was an intentional test and not an actual first game open to the public) and I can assure you the developers are aware and working to make sure this can't happen in future versions of the game and further into Early Access.
It's the internet. People suck. Don't expect gold when you're digging through a sewer.
No voice or text chat.
No way to identify steam ID's, or track anything at all. No way to kick players.
Yea, its true that "every game going to have griefers" Thats exactly why its kinda suprising the lack of thought put into setting up any sort of permission systems or pin codes or anything of the sort.
It is early access, but that doesnt mean that the lack of this kind of thought is not bad for the game. People getting into it and testing the waters are going to be left with a sour taste over this aspect of the game.
The fact that we all share Flame Alters and trolls can enter your game and delete them is ridiculous for the most part. They should make settings so that you chose whether they are separate or shared Flame Alters. Also add an option to make bases indestructible to other players and that you cant place bases in close proximity to the maximum sized base.
Multiplayer feels like an after thought.
With the way quests are handled, the difficulty (or lack thereof), lacking server tools, no text or voice chat built in... Really feels like a solo game.
this is one of the few basic things that the dev should have figured it out even before releasing EA if they really play their own game or researching other similar games.
a simple fix like owner of a building or guild for the area is good enough.
they don't even provide any kind of communication ingame. lol.
don't get me wrong. i'm enjoying the game so far. but there are a lot of small things that the dev didn't do in this sort of game/genre
there is no emote, no chat, no voice..
after you do all of it. you can't interact or see any actual reaction.
i guess, some people just love to wreck things.
we never know how miserable they are on rl so they can find happiness by doing this
Not random people off the internet. That's why they don't have extensive player management functions.
The people randomly showing up on the OP's server probably thought the game had some PVP element and were trying to get the OP to attack, so they could kill the OP, and unlock some non-existent PVP achievement.
You could also take PVP into account and have PVP settings where they don't share bases, but they also can attack and destroy other bases. That would give the people who want to fight, something different to focus on.
You may not have heard some of the same stories I have. LIke someone who "griefed" a minecraft world by burying it in... cake. Lots and lots and lots of cake.
Cake which they made by the way, not spawned in. The person who did it didn't have access to any admin commands. They just built a MASSIVE automated farm in secret, to get the sugar, milk, etc needed to make thousands and thousands of cakes. It was bizarre, elegant and weirdly classy. Also, hella annoying, since the only way to get rid of all of that was to eat it. And you can't eat when you're not hungry. People had to eat tunnels down to the front entrances of their bases, like james and the giant peach style.
Never underestimate the ability of people to do weird things.
