Toxicity
I'd already been warned that creating a Private Server with no password would be a bad idea but I just wanted to see if that was truly the case...
I created a new character so that I could start afresh, named the Server 'Just4Fun' and started playing.
I'd just recovered the first NPC helper (The Blacksmith) when the first Player arrived... Level 24 and wearing his full level 24 gear... he poked around for a few minutes before leaving.
Half an hour later (rt) a second Player appeared - Level 15 - who almost immediately destroyed my Storage chests, bed and table - when he got no reaction from me, he left... so, I rebuilt.
Another hour passed (rt) when a third Player appeared - Level 21 - who went on the same kind of rampage... except he also destroyed most of my base.
The third and last Player to arrive before I closed the Server down seemed to be on some kind medication or possibly, should have been - because he simply stood in front of me with an axe in his hand in some sad way of intimidation, I guess.
I've already completed every part of the game that's currently available, so their antics just left me depressed about the sheer lack of thought given by the Devs to Multiplayer design.
That we, Server Owners, have literally no way to Ban toxic Players or even note Player Steam ID's so that we can report their Toxic behaviour is ridiculous.
The above, combined with no Chat and no Voice communication if we want to open our Worlds up to new Players makes Server Ownership worthless - unless you're only open to 'friends' you already have.

Enshrouded in its current form was built with the thought of friends playing together cooperatively and not for people to play on public servers, as such as you correctly note there is currently no in game chat to communicate with strangers or server permissions and other administration capabilities.

The developers released a statement early on acknowledging the problem and urging the community to backup their worlds and only play on password protected servers for the time being until they can implement such in-game server protection capabilities.

I am personally really sorry multiple players have had this experience in Enshrouded (in your case at least it was an intentional test and not an actual first game open to the public) and I can assure you the developers are aware and working to make sure this can't happen in future versions of the game and further into Early Access.

Given how they are so focused on group play, it's really bizarre. As said, it's EA though. People need to keep their expectations in check for a while.

It's the internet. People suck. Don't expect gold when you're digging through a sewer.

I also feel there is a complete lack of thought put into multiplayer.
No voice or text chat.
No way to identify steam ID's, or track anything at all. No way to kick players.

Yea, its true that "every game going to have griefers" Thats exactly why its kinda suprising the lack of thought put into setting up any sort of permission systems or pin codes or anything of the sort.

It is early access, but that doesnt mean that the lack of this kind of thought is not bad for the game. People getting into it and testing the waters are going to be left with a sour taste over this aspect of the game.

I have no friends who play these games. So multi-player adds nothing for me.

The fact that we all share Flame Alters and trolls can enter your game and delete them is ridiculous for the most part. They should make settings so that you chose whether they are separate or shared Flame Alters. Also add an option to make bases indestructible to other players and that you cant place bases in close proximity to the maximum sized base.

You're not wrong.

Multiplayer feels like an after thought.

With the way quests are handled, the difficulty (or lack thereof), lacking server tools, no text or voice chat built in... Really feels like a solo game.

yes it is EA, but it can't be use as a free jail/pass card all the time.
this is one of the few basic things that the dev should have figured it out even before releasing EA if they really play their own game or researching other similar games.

a simple fix like owner of a building or guild for the area is good enough.

they don't even provide any kind of communication ingame. lol.

don't get me wrong. i'm enjoying the game so far. but there are a lot of small things that the dev didn't do in this sort of game/genre

Kinda like real life, wouldn't let random psychos in your home and don't let them into your server.

i just wonder why there such terrible human beings out there that are just...litteraly toxic like this and harm with bad intentions, like why?

Its a strange state of affairs when they take the tools to deal with trouble makers. I guess they think we're all racists and are just gonna ban black folk.

yeah. i don't understand either. and there isn't even an interaction you can make.
there is no emote, no chat, no voice..
after you do all of it. you can't interact or see any actual reaction.

i guess, some people just love to wreck things.
we never know how miserable they are on rl so they can find happiness by doing this

Welcome to the internet. Griefers were there day one mucking up BBS boards and moving on to every game since. Dont even get me started on trying to host counter strike beta servers.

Like it or not, believe it or not, as you will; But that's true for the real world as well. Humans, may be 'social creatures', but it's a miracle humans haven't destroyed ourselves, with how many 'anti-social monsters' there are out there. The numbers are truly staggering.

This game was clearly meant to be played with a small group of friends. People who either know each other in real life, or have played together online for years.

Not random people off the internet. That's why they don't have extensive player management functions.

The people randomly showing up on the OP's server probably thought the game had some PVP element and were trying to get the OP to attack, so they could kill the OP, and unlock some non-existent PVP achievement.
Storm Reaver Feb 11, 2024 @ 11:30pm
It's something easy to fix though. Just give us the option to not share alters and make everything within the zone of our alters indestructible to other players. That way they don't even have the power to touch your bases and lose interest.

You could also take PVP into account and have PVP settings where they don't share bases, but they also can attack and destroy other bases. That would give the people who want to fight, something different to focus on.

You may not have heard some of the same stories I have. LIke someone who "griefed" a minecraft world by burying it in... cake. Lots and lots and lots of cake.

Cake which they made by the way, not spawned in. The person who did it didn't have access to any admin commands. They just built a MASSIVE automated farm in secret, to get the sugar, milk, etc needed to make thousands and thousands of cakes. It was bizarre, elegant and weirdly classy. Also, hella annoying, since the only way to get rid of all of that was to eat it. And you can't eat when you're not hungry. People had to eat tunnels down to the front entrances of their bases, like james and the giant peach style.

Never underestimate the ability of people to do weird things.
