Shield vs Ward
Is there any reason to pick one over the other. I am 180 hours in and still haven't figured it out. :D
Shield seems to be the better option, so I am confused what a ward is for.

I found no advantage in using a ward over a shield. Shields are just objectively better end game. I feel like they were added for roleplay so pure mages don't have a warrior shield, but your nerfing yourself if you use one

Magic is so overpowered atm there is no point you can 1 shot everything in the game with eternal acid, 10% is not substantial. The other gentleman is saying stack it with additional resistance but its totally unnecessary, just get the passives if you really want to respec into fighting 1 mob and never use the ward and you'll be completely fine.

Playing a mage is for weaklings who want to wave a glorified twig at their enemies expecting to explode, instead of fighting like a real warrior.
Harry Potter is a ♥♥♥♥♥ btw!
Actually, Harry is surprisingly pretty ripped right now.

Yeh saw that, he's all roided up right now, maybe his next role will be Conan the Barbarian or something.

Don't know why they didn't just make it so that wards can block magical attacks as well...Seems like the obvious thing imho.

Haha, without googling, he's still a small ripped midget.

It depends on the play style. Shields take up less stamina for actual blocking where you hold it to endure a combo and the like if you don't want to parry. Wards are excellent for parry play as they provide other passive defensive buffs while also having better parry stats.

Any 2-handed weapon player (staff, axe, etc) certainly could/shuold use a Ward since they cant carry a shield. When they occasionally single-wield the ward might be less effective then, but most of the time you are in a better overall position.

I'd say mages being able to one shot most enemies while having infinite mana isn't working well and needs to be fixed.
I'd say at this point we don't know that the damage capacity for Mages at present, isn't incredibly weak in what they still have planned.

There is more to be done before the game is at release state, and we don't know how much of that will be harder content than the hardest we have seen so far.

Ward over shield! Why? Cause the ward looks way cooler, like a forceshield ... and you only see it, when you block ... it is a more aesthetic alternative to a ugly shield and can be used as a light in the darkness ... and the game is so easy, that you don't need "the best" item and can carry the "best looking" item ^^

I noticed a shield works best outside of the Shroud while the Ward works best inside the Shroud.
So both have there purpose depending where you spent your time.
