That is the only viable way to get feathers. You get one feather per chicken and need five for 25 arrows. Spending an hour to get 9 feathers is not viable nor consistent with balance of a crucial resource for a class. A mele class clicks on the workbench and is ready to go out in the world again. A caster class can spend an hour and get enough resources to craft spells for days of adventuring. An hour of feather gathering gets you one dungeon. I'm level 25 with ranger maxed and 255 hours in and the entire map open and all towers unlocked, meaning I did my homework before posting. : )

Draconic vultures, there are a lot more than those chicken things and they come to you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I remembered drakes dropping feathers, but since I now have Calm the Beast skill, they don't aggro me, so I haven't been killing them of late.
I just spent 26 minutes killing them. Here's what I found: I got 22 feathers, which is almost double the rate of feather drop from chickens, so your suggestion is valid. But I have to use 5 iron arrows to drop one, and that is if every arrow hits, which with drakes is not at all certain, as they seem to have a wonky hit box. Plus iron arrows means mining iron, and wood for coal to forge it. So five iron arrows for two feathers is still in the absurd category. And As a ranged class, they can one-shot me, so I have to eat my best food to go out and hunt them, which is farming and more gathering, all to get feathers for arrows. : P

On a side note, I see a lot of hunters/ranger complaining about the grind getting twigs. I have no issue with twigs. 30 minutes with wolf den or tiger den mining, and I have enough twigs for stacks of arrows. Feathers are ridiculous, tho. : /
Kill the humanoid bear things, I have more feathers than I could ever use from genoc... i mean, exploring their caves

Perhaps you found a special cave? I get one feather out of one in five bear-things. Of the three sources of feathers I've found (chickens, drakes and bear-things), bear-things are the worst.

Thats pretty much the reason i haven't tried ranger yet. So no idea how much dmg costs, but you could use low arrows or wands. Even a staff might deals decent dmg.

I won't complain about a lack of twigs, due to my buildingprojects i got way too many. Since i'm building metal towers, i know the grind of mining metals well enough.

They should increase the output of the arrow recipes. There should also be a base 30% chance to recover arrows from killed enemies and two skills to increase it to 60%/100%. :APTrose:

I think wands may be the best option, as there is no arrow cost to get arrow components.
I need to go out again and practice more, but what seemed to work is one or two hits with the wand, forward roll, sprint a short distance, turn, rinse and repeat. The challenge is that a. drakes have a weird hitbox which results in a lot of misses with anything ranged and b. wands have a short range, so the drakes are right on top of you until you kill them. : P

Agree. Started a new ranger build today after we almost completed the game.

Used up all the feathers we found in the playthrough previously in like 2 hours. *lol*

Can just laugh about people complaining about twigs. Most of them didn't know that you can grow bushes yourself. Since we haven't had an archer in our group yet, there is also half a chest full of twigs dropped from trees we needed mostly for coal. They have almost no use besides of arrows.
Wait till you come to arrows requiring feathers. Then complain again. ;)

At least these bird-thingies should have a guaranteed drop for feathers.

Also an option to not do multishot would be nice, because this burns the arrow amount and is not really needed if you just hunt chicks for feathers.
Directly to the east of the Nomad Highlands Spire there's a place called "Draconian Vulture Nest" 5 to 6 of those things plus some nests that might have feathers and can be mined for twigs.
Also a good source for eggs and bird meat if you happen to use the "chicken soup" and "boiled eggs" foods.

I use Scrap and or Copper arrows to avoid wasting iron/feathers. They don't give me too much trouble.

Still a pretty painful farm, I hope they reconsider arrow recipes.
