Books also should be lootable with one button press, not slowly "dismantling" them. As far as I am aware, books are literally the only item in the game you can "dismantle" outside of building zone of your altar. Why the exception? The game is really in a dire need of standardization to remove all these confusing and excessive exceptions to rules.
Go to Woodgard. Just place a nearby flame and then relog to respawn the books.
Depends on what book your crafting. some are 20 others 80
20 for a single book. 80 for a stack of 4. Always has been.
Tried that. You get less overall. By quite a bit.
