Head out to the spot pointed out by the game, put down a workbench and create a tool to flatten the landscape in a designated area.
From that point on continue until you find an area you like a lot - there are a few ruined vilaged you may consider to use - place down a new altar and build your permanent base over there.

Works like a charm.
