Starting a Dedicated Server
This weekend i will be using my older desktop that just sits around to run a dedicated server for the house. Both kids and my wife have the game, plus a couple friends. My son and I are big into this game, the rest are waiting for us to get farther in the game so they can do the farming/building/etc.

I've watched a few videos on YouTube on how to do this dedicated server stuff but have yet to build one myself. Looks easy enough! :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

I'll let you know how it goes and any issues I have for other new people going to start this for the first time. :happy_creep:

Good luck, it's quite enjoyable being able to self host.
Done it for a couple of years now with an old rig and it's super handy.

Ok so got it working and forgot to set the PC to not go to sleep and it kicked my son off lol. Fixed that.

I noticed in game when my son was playing and I was playing the game looked a little choppy. When i watched him run around it wasn't smooth it was like he was lagging.

Server ping is 50ish.

I did a clean install on the below system to run the server.

Win 10 Pro (all win updates)
Intel i7-6700 4gh 4 cores
16gb ram
Geforce GTX 980 (Older but don't think the video card matters for running the server files only)

Should I install that .net stuff for windows? I dunno if I have that. Usually certain games will make me go look and download that.

I did originally leave the 16 player option on but downgraded it to only have up to 5 players so i will test that out later when my son gets back from school to see if that was causing the lag.

Enshrouded Server Requirements for 4-6 Players:
CPU: Intel Core i7 with 3.2 GHz or equivalent AMD / 6 Cores (12 Threads)
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Storage: SSD with at least 30 GB free space for the installation
Additional Storage: Up to 100mb for each additional saved world
Internet Connection: Per player, an upload capacity of 2mbit/sec is recommended, and download capacity should roughly match the upload.

Enshrouded Server Requirements for 16 Players:
CPU: Intel Core i7 with 3.7 GHz or equivalent AMD / 8 Cores (16 Threads)
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Storage: SSD with at least 30 GB free space for the installation
Additional Storage: Up to 100mb for each additional saved world
Internet Connection: Per player, an upload capacity of 2mbit/sec is recommended, and download capacity should roughly match the upload.

I would recommend pausing windows update as well, if not it will reboot at the worst hours :)

Hah sounds good!

So I was just on there and loaded up my daughters pc. It was a latency of 10 so all good there. But when her character would jump around or float, it would look choppy on my characters screen. Her game was fine.

I'm currently looking for ways to clear up that part. I do have the server computer running on wifi. maybe I should move the tower to the living room and connect it to a cable. But dang 10 latency is pretty good so i don't think it's that. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

On my server machine, 120mb/s download and 42 mb/s upload speed. I do see I am missing a few cores on the processor. I have plenty of storage on this SSD as this is the only thing I have on the server PC.

I always meant to have a cable on mine but I never got around to it tbh :P
You using SSDs on it btw? I've only used that myself but these days they are pretty much standard.
Edit: and I just saw your other reply :)

id confirm support with your motherboard but.. consider swapping out that i5-6700 for an i5-8600. they're technically the same cpu socket but Intel sucks and makes you buy a new mobo every gen or 2. id found an 8600 used on ebay for $50. Again, confirm if your mobo would support it. best of luck!

It ended up being the old onboard wifi card. Plugged in a different one fixed it.
