I used to get legendaries every time I farmed that chest. But, there was a patch a couple of days ago, and immediately afterwards no more legendaries dropped. Now it's only common up till epic loot.
I was sad.
it removes blue drops and common drops from the dropchance completely (excludeing armors as they are always common quality) leaveing only epic and legendary rolls behind.
silver chest :
very low legendary chance. low epic chance. decent rare chance. can drop uncommon items aswell as common items for weapons.
gold chest :
1/3 chance for any weapon to be legendary. 1/3 chance for any weapon to be epic quality. 1/3 chance for any item to be rare quality. zero chance for common and uncommon items ASIDE ARMOR as thats common no matter the chest it comes from.
ornate gold chest (has a special design and is very distinct from a regular gold chest) :
50/50 chance for all weapons to be either epic or legendary quality. zero chance for rare items. regular chance for armors to drop.
its not a contest. if you want legendary weapons and level 25 armors farm the ornate gold chest near the northen shroud canyon thats half buried in the sand above the shroud. you can place a flame altar right outside its range and a run will take 7 seconds. it can drop the level 25 armors aswell unlike most ornate chests. its fully unguarded aswell.
any other farming method IS slower and outright worse over time. especially for weapons. this chest can drop ANY legendary weapon and any level 25 armor.
there is still players who wanna tell you drops are enemy or chest specific. but they arent. i got ALL legendary weapons and all 3 full sets of 25 armors from this one chest. all of them.
the only difference is if you farm a chest or boss that is not considering level 25 ingame as these will then drop the level 23 armors instead of the 25 ones.
there is plenty of plain worse farming methods littering youtube "guides" but the above mentioned chest beats them all. its not even a contest anymore. if you have a good loading time you can loot that chest 6 times PER MINUTE. nothing else comes close. all other runs are ALOT slower.
that beeing said : dont stress over this. when the level cap goes up (it will) itll go to atleast 35-40 right away. they wont raise the cap in steps of 5. that is too small steps for such a huge map. so all currently farmed legendarys will becomes obsolete as soon as you can reach level 31. current legendarys IF NOT UPGRADED will be able to climb to level 30 once the cap is raised if you upgrade them then. if you upgrade them now they might stay stuck at 25 so be warned about that.
people telling you that certain legendarys can only be gotten from certain enemies are either talking about 100% fixed drops like commanders ring or are straight up makeing things up. it has been proven that all drops are shared by everything chests and bosses within a zone by many players. so dont listen to your friend saying "you gotta farm that boss for this item" if its not a 100% drop he simply got lucky with said boss and believes rng isnt zone based. but it is. its been proven. end of story on that front.
i assume if the devs stick to this system (entire design and system behind chests and bosses tells me they will as the same legendary designs are used from level 1 to 25 just with different levels and enchantments) they might add another chest tier above ornate chests which will drop legendarys with 100% chance.
given armors also have a substat category to them (resistences vs cutting etc) but these are always +0 they might also add legendary rng based armors down the road since all gear slots can get legendary aside armor for now (hookshot caps at rare for now but safe to asssume legendary will come later)
Near that chest is a buried tomb, you actually have to dig through the sand to reach the opening of. In the 3 floor mini-dungeon are 3 silver chests, and 2 stone crypts. They consistently drop MUCH better loot then the gold chest nearby on the surface. The silver chests in there are the only place I've had radiant paladin boots ever drop. I get radiant paladin, eagle eye, and elder armor sets. All level 25. And lotttttts of gold legendary level 25 items. Either 70 damage or 47 for melees, 35 for bows, 47 for wands. I still get some epic and rare stuff too, that's just RNG. But overall it skews higher then silver chests in other places.
youre welcome. i just wrote this up because you STILL have some clueless players pretending its not the case and acting like thier own looting experience proves it. i have spoken to a whole bunch of players and tested over 10 chests by now. its always the same. these people who tryhard to convince you its otherwise are just not capable of accepting reality facts. they dont understand the magnitude of the rng table that is beeing used by this game. the only difference is "can the chest drop drop weapons below epic quality or not" and thats it. and to get the most legendarys you of course dont want blue rolls to occur in your rng chances.
for armors it doesnt matter. armors are common and armors are very easy to get and farm since they dont have a sub rng roll unlike weapons.
example of how it works :
chest is filled (on zone reset or world reload) with 1 item. this reroll happens no matter if the chest was actually empytied or not by the player.
rng rolls :
weapon/armor/ring
if armor is chosen by the first roll the rng picks 1 out of 5 possible results for the 2nd roll. then adds the item to the chest.
since armor is always common quality the rng rolls end here.
if the first rng roll picks ring it picks one of the availabe ring for the current flame level area and adds it to the chest. rings have a fixed rarity so each ring has a fixed rarity assignd to it so they arent random on that front.
so armor and rings have only 2 rng rolls.
now if weapon is chosen this happens :
rng picks a weapon from the huge list.
rng checks what type of chest item is supposed to go to.
if chest is only silver rng then rolls a number between 1 to 5 to pick a rarity. then puts item in the chest. each number stands for a rarity. (common/uncommon/rare/epic/legendary)
if chest is regular golden chest rng then rolls a number between 1 to 3 (rare/epic/legendary) then adds item to the chest.
if chest is a ornate golden chest rng then rolls a number between 1 and 2. (epic/legendary) then adds item to the chest.
i hope this clears the system up for players.
this is the same for bosses aside that each boss that doesnt have a fixed loot like the dragon is considered the same as a REGULAR GOLDEN CHEST by the games rng table for thier itemdrop rolls. the other materials of bosses arent part of the gear rng rolls as they have different drop slots assigned to them for each category.
due to the boss not beeing the same as a ornate gold chest as you can see its straight up worse for farming but only for weapons. for armors only the speed of the farming method matters.
I'm unsure if some desert areas that drop level 25 are all the same. Much like how level 25 gear sets drop from certain chests, then it must share the same loot pool with weapons. So if you go loot an area and get level 23 gear, then the weapons will be different. Not a big deal since I'm just collecting all legendary copies of each weapon.
this isnt correct and another common missconception. there is no difference in what weapons come from which chest. thats a myth.
first off :
if a dropped weapon is a legendary it gains a level boost UNLESS its level 25 already. this means if the same weapon from a level 23 chest is chosen it becomes level 25 since its legendary.
since this doesnt apply to armors as they are always common these stay at level 23. and armors are level dependant.
for example all chests that are considered to be inside the level 30 zone. will all drop only level 25 armors. theyll never drop level 23 armors.
while if a chest is found in a level 25 zone instead itll only drop level 23 armors.
these zones arent distinct on the map but your flame level vs shroud lethal requirements give you a good indicator of a zone level area.
anything that needs flame level 6 = level 30 zone.
anything that needs flame level 5 = level 25 zone.
this includes the areas that arent inside the shroud but are still part of the same total zone area.
the ARMOR drops tell you what zone level each chest belongs to. easy to find out therefore. the weapons ARE NOT an indicator of this at all due to the above mentioned level boost for higher tiered weapons. use the armor drops only to determine this.

THIS CHEST. is NOT BEATABLE if you want level 25 armors and legendary weapons at the same time. 7 seconds run. altar is placed JUST OUT OF ITS RANGE means you cannot get an altar any closer to any chest than this or it will stop respawning. its a no brainer.
if you want level 23 armors and THE SAME legendarys as above chest use the ornate gold chest inside the most eastern sun temple on the map.
people have digged into the game FILES. this is how it works currently. it doesnt work any other way. there is no hidden secret drops in certain areas aside the 100% fixed drops. so dont waste your time trying to prove otherwise. you cannot do that as its simply not possible.
small sidenote : there is ONE regular common weapon that can drop from an ornate gold chest. the malestar mace. its always common quality. this is a bug in the lootable. its the only weapon this happens with. so chance youll ever even see it is very minimal to begin with.
It's sad for the armors that there aren't better versions available in the loot table. Surely they will implement a bunch later on.
They should also recheck some of the gear stats like the + 1 hp/mana on weapons as this is clearly a mistake.
the weapon designs are always the same. in any zone. at any level. the devs are reuseing the same models for every level. thier enchantments are just different depending on level they are found with.
but an ice blade always looks like an ice blade. no matter if its level 5 or level 25. only its stats differ slightly.
like i explained. a legendary weapon gets a level boost by default unless its already at 25. thus a chest dropping level 23 armors will still drop level 25 legendarys with the same stats. easy to see on the eastern sun temple ornate chest.
yes thats lazy game design on the weapons design front.
armors are different depending on flame level zone the chest is part off. they have fixed levels. most of them match the crafted armors levels aside for the level 25 ones. but they got unique designs atleast. and they nearly all look way better than crafted ones.
the later isnt a mistake at all. these bonuses are all minor. regen stats are always super low as they are insanely powerful in this game. the ring of rapacity is a bug. its not supposed to grant 20 mana regen.
all other sources of regen are +1-4 at most per item. so weapons haveing +1 as an extra legendary enchantment is totally in line with that and normal. since some legendarys can have this effect multiple times it beeing ANY higher would be insanely OP.
