The Shroud mechanic is the most defining difference. Certain areas are foggy. Entering them starts a timer of variable length depending on your buffs. If it ticks to 0:00 you die, making some quests and events timed with a sense of urgency. Obviously not everyone will like that, but good and diverse gaming has an important place for mechanics like that.
This game has action role playing combat and a node based class system where you basically chose what you want to be as you're open to whatever skills you can unlock for your character. You get a hook shot and glider that will help you diverse the terrain and that makes the game somewhat more enjoyable.
But the game also has elements of survival and farm simulation for building your base. You collect resources and upgrade your flame alter to expand your bases and create your own towns and such. It's not stuck in farm mode, you can chose to explore and adventure.
The building mechanics in this game are gorgeous as you can literally just modify the terrain and design buildings to make your base something truly unique. You're not limited to simple wall templates, as the voxel system in this game really stands out here.
you dont have to eat drink or sleep. and you arent in a hostile enviroment. your base is never attacked or in danger by anything.
there is no wandering enemies. you can stand in a free spot in this game for hours and nothing will ever come to attack you.
it has its charme. but dont compare to these 2 games overall as they are both very different from it. the worldmap here is also fixed. not the case for the other games you mentioned.
plus you have map fast travel and the game is overall very easy compared to your 2 games aswell.
the voxel world is amazing and allows nearly infinite creative freedom for building. sadly the building is also largely meaningless unlike valheim for example. you can stuff everything that actually has benefits in 1 block house and be done with it.
for the price its got a fair amount of playtime in it. way better deal than other games that ask more money for less.
but its definitly early access. lots of bugs and imbalances and overall feeling very betaish still. but definitly playable.
and unlike 7 days and valheim EVERYTHING respawns that isnt part of your "player base box home area" that you can place down. this respawn happens every 30 minutes or each time the gameworld is reloaded.
Uhm - the game intro pretty much tells you why? Someone showed up one day, giving people the so-called elixier. People became greedy for it and started digging and dug too deep - and the shroud started rising from the elixier wells. Your job in the game is to eliminate shroud roots and try to restore/heal the land.
Do not go into this expecting survial mechanics or a good experience in a multiplayer persisent world. Treat this game like a solo game or you would something like BG3(play together at the same time)
Here, you only run into them occasionally, so exploration is pretty chill.
When you DO run into mobs... be prepared! They can be tough as nails at times!
Leveling up doesn't do anything but give you a skill point, which you also get from other activities.
Your character is 100% customizable, AND can change it up at any time you want.
Quite a fun game.
Just get an iron man option cause fked if im dying once gtfo
