What's the point of this game?
I've played lots of survival games like 7 Days to Die, and Valheim. What is this game about, and how is it different? Just curious to understand

World exploration here feels better in that you get a lot of quests with premise tied to the ending of the previous age. I like the melee combat in Valheim better, and the tower defense in 7dtd, which currently does not have any corresponding mechanic in this game. This game plays truer to an RPG with the class combination customization that is kind of like Path of Exhile (lite).

The Shroud mechanic is the most defining difference. Certain areas are foggy. Entering them starts a timer of variable length depending on your buffs. If it ticks to 0:00 you die, making some quests and events timed with a sense of urgency. Obviously not everyone will like that, but good and diverse gaming has an important place for mechanics like that.

The Shroud has infected the lands and you have to discover why. You go throughout the game unlocking more people born from the flame to combat the shroud and learn more by reading diaries, journals and obelisks to discover why these things happened.

This game has action role playing combat and a node based class system where you basically chose what you want to be as you're open to whatever skills you can unlock for your character. You get a hook shot and glider that will help you diverse the terrain and that makes the game somewhat more enjoyable.

But the game also has elements of survival and farm simulation for building your base. You collect resources and upgrade your flame alter to expand your bases and create your own towns and such. It's not stuck in farm mode, you can chose to explore and adventure.

The building mechanics in this game are gorgeous as you can literally just modify the terrain and design buildings to make your base something truly unique. You're not limited to simple wall templates, as the voxel system in this game really stands out here.

For me? The base building. It's incredible. I can't even explain it, you have to see it in action. Go find a Youtube video of someone building a base and just pay attention to how things change is blocks and pieces are placed, it's really astounding what they pulled off here.
The point is to find the point. When you reach the point of finding the point. You will understand the point. You will then be able to look at other and point out the point as I do so now. Point. :steamhappy:

The point is to rid the land of the shroud by destroying so called shroud roots. Unfortunately these shroud roots respawn and rather quickly as well and thus the game is completely pointless.

these 2 games you mentioned are survival games. this game is more of an action adventure/rpg with building. there is no actual survival mechanics in this game currently.
you dont have to eat drink or sleep. and you arent in a hostile enviroment. your base is never attacked or in danger by anything.

there is no wandering enemies. you can stand in a free spot in this game for hours and nothing will ever come to attack you.

it has its charme. but dont compare to these 2 games overall as they are both very different from it. the worldmap here is also fixed. not the case for the other games you mentioned.

plus you have map fast travel and the game is overall very easy compared to your 2 games aswell.

the voxel world is amazing and allows nearly infinite creative freedom for building. sadly the building is also largely meaningless unlike valheim for example. you can stuff everything that actually has benefits in 1 block house and be done with it.

for the price its got a fair amount of playtime in it. way better deal than other games that ask more money for less.

but its definitly early access. lots of bugs and imbalances and overall feeling very betaish still. but definitly playable.

and unlike 7 days and valheim EVERYTHING respawns that isnt part of your "player base box home area" that you can place down. this respawn happens every 30 minutes or each time the gameworld is reloaded.

Uhm - the game intro pretty much tells you why? Someone showed up one day, giving people the so-called elixier. People became greedy for it and started digging and dug too deep - and the shroud started rising from the elixier wells. Your job in the game is to eliminate shroud roots and try to restore/heal the land.

the point of this game is the same as any other entertainment product, to escape reality, kill time and boredom.

This is NOT a survival game. At least for now. It should not be compared to 7 days and other survival games. Its a coop/solo adventure game.

Do not go into this expecting survial mechanics or a good experience in a multiplayer persisent world. Treat this game like a solo game or you would something like BG3(play together at the same time)

Same premise as the movie "Drawn Together".

Agreed once killed it should stay dead. The rests spoils the progression so it’s like ground hog day.

The only survival aspect the game has is, "Try not to die, mkay?"

I really really like the way the mobs are spread out. This game is much different than typical games, where the landscape is dotted with mobs - everywhere.

Here, you only run into them occasionally, so exploration is pretty chill.

When you DO run into mobs... be prepared! They can be tough as nails at times!

Leveling up doesn't do anything but give you a skill point, which you also get from other activities.

Your character is 100% customizable, AND can change it up at any time you want.

Quite a fun game.

to have fun and escape the mundane life of a 9 to 5, a mortgage, kids and a wife...you know..responsibility
