are 2h weapons useless?
every 2h item i find, legendary, epic.. seems to get outshined by a HUGE margin by a 1h and shield.. 1h has quicker attack and faster animations allowing you to attack and block faster.. where as the 2h does subpar damage, and has a much longer hard lock animation.. they need to do like 2x or 3x more damage lol

they make for good barrel smashing

2H weapons are fine, especially when used with the Jump Attack. I played a melee through level 25 using probably 60% 2H, 30% 1H/Shield and 10% Bow. Good times.

Me too; Jump attack and Merciless Attack, along with some skills that give you a greater chance to stun, can be very effective with the right 2H weapon. You look silly bunny hopping all over the playing field, but with the higher dmg of a 2-hander axe, plus the 3-4 enhancments you can get on one of them that each gives additional cutting damage... combined with the 30% damage increase in warrior for cutting... by the end I was hitting for 400+ AOE dmg. there might be other ways that are better, but this one worked pretty good.

They have double the dmg of 1h nearly so i wouldn't say useless, they attack slower but seem to stun faster too

It just seems like they need a buff, while do-able with a build, they are practically worthless early game.

mid-late game 2h is beastly. My best weapon is a lvl 25 wolfs maw 1h sword. It does maybe 150 damage to critters in the late highlands early wastes capping out at a decent 400 with crits. My primary weapon is the 2h lvl18 hammer soothsayer. Which does minimum of 300 damage on enemies resisting, capping out at over 1,000 easily on certain enemies with jump attack. soothsayer is almost a 1 hit kill on non-bosses and routinely breaking almost any block short of the shrouded captain/legionnaire. the thunderbrute in the underneath takes 700 damage per swing of the soothsayer.

As others stated - jump attack and nearly double the damage.
I'm only around lvl 13, but I have a level 11 2h Axe and a level 13 1h Sword (green, while the Axe is Legendary so ... not the best comparisment) the Axe is at 55dmg the sword at 22 both fully upgraded.

So even a Legendary 1h might get up to what? 30? Still a big difference in maxdmg, faster attackspeed is nice, but specially at bigger enemies there is from my feeling not the time to do 3-4 hits, so ~2 hits then dodge, ~2hits then dodge... etc. with a 2h Axe and the charge-attack after dodge + jump attacks the damage is far far bigger with 2h weapons.
They are bad against range enemys or bugs, as they can attack back and/or swarm you so you get hit sometimes... but for that always have a sword&board ready.

Some skills favor 2H

I've done a sword and shield and two handed melee build, and honestly two handed was the most fun, when you get the perks for it.

Kinda? I bring one for killing several bugs at once without needing to ready a spell on my max level mage. Overall, 1h melee is FAR superior especially if you're built for melee.

Higher level you get the worse it becomes, and it only starts out as sub par then gets worse from there. Swings take way to long, damage is lower than ranged or magic, you get stunned a lot. melee in general is bad, if you want damage go magic

I use only 2 handed hammers and I'm specced full barbarian/fighter with some points I've started spreading out to fill in +dmg perks and stamina. The dodge attack is really nice.

I stagger enemies quickly and I'm still out damaging my wizard buddy on most monsters at lvl 19. The double jump attack is nice for AOE weak mobs, but the dodge attack is what's made it really shine for comboing and bouncing around enemies. I can dodge back, then attack while locked on and get right back in there stacking damage.

At lvl 19 my lvl 18 mace has FAR more damage on it than I've ever found on a one hander. A big part is making sure you get the right perks. One I just found has three different +12 damages and two Brutal perks on it (I crit VERY often). It's nasty.

Far from useless, i prefer 2H over 1H. Dont listen to the naysayers.

As mentioned the double and regular jump attack will be your main attack with its devasting AOE. Useful for initiating and group fights.

Build for max strength, crits and blunt damage. Im rocking a 2H with full blunt damage and upgraded with additional blunt damage and bosses are a joke at this point.
