Why is mining so low key garbage?
Yes, we can mine for salt, dirt, stone, flint and probably other crap I havnt run across.

BUT WHY CANT WE MINE FOR METAL?!? Why is early game Metal Scrap the only thing we can get to make Metal Sheets? Do we ever get to mine for metal? Why have mining but not metal materials to mine up? This is just flat out crap game design.

Other than that im actually enjoying the game. Metal Scrap is my largest issue.

Because its a issue in early game meaning its mean to be something that takes a bit of time to farm, but virtually every enemy drops it.

Every bucket and every thing in the game has metal.

It won't be an issue for you long.

those are different resources. The resource the OP was inquiring about is Metal Scrap which is not something we are able to "Mine."

I agree that mining is a slog, having to swing a pickaxe multiple times to get a single ore and waiting 10-30 seconds for your stamina to regen. But scrap metal is super easy to get, and technically you can "mine" it by breaking metal objects.

Better pickaxe = faster mining and getting more materials. Upgrade your tools when you have the option.

If you have just started my only reply for you is to just keep playing and don't worry about it. The world doesn't open up much until you clear the first couple of spires and then the pace picks up for your enjoyment.

Bottom line is don't worry about it as you will be swimming in that stuff in short order.

Once you find your first large scavenger camp and place an altar next door you wont have a scrap metal problem ever again.

I thought remelting metal scraps into a sheets was a great idea by the devs; it lets you make some simple metal stuff early on pre-blacksmith. Stuff you get by the combat you need to start doing. Then later you have to mine to get real ores that you have to do serious refining on with special machines to remove the impurities, etc.

Later on once you have more combat capabilities its pretty trivial to quickly go farm metal scrap from the entire local scavenger camp; in the very early stages that might be a little tougher but not for long...

Not saying everything they have done is perfect of course; pretty sure you can only burn wood logs to get charcoal and not palm logs, hardwood etc. (seems like they could easily fix that sometime)

can get about 40 or 50 in one run to woodgard. also pick up a lot just from killing stuff and smashing barrels. you can also pick the carts with the iron looking bars for scrap metal. there really is alot if you know what to look for.

The building process is the only thing I feel they got going well, everything else including the mining aspect feels off. Its not bad but its not good ether. The metal scrap will be pretty much a drop to the end of of the game so it can be a small hassle in the start but mid way through your "adventures" you will probably have like 400 in stacks just sitting around in storage back at base.

Mining and tree cutting should not use stamina period.
The wait mechanic sucks.

In combat it actually adds something to the game.
Stamina is a waste of time (literally) when it bogs down basic gathering/mining.

It's one thing to get more from better tools, or have the drops happen with fewer swings. But having to stop playing and just wait for stam to rebuild is bad gameplay.
And NO, having to play more, to level up so that it isn't as bad is NOT legitimate progression that solves the bad gameplay.

Stamina has always been a horrible game mechanic. It has only ever served to make players sit around doing nothing waiting for their action bar to have more action number to make action...
