Rocky Grass
I want to make a grassy field on my floating island, but I'm getting this really ugly rocky grass terrain. Anyone know how to make the ground grassy without the dumb rocks all over the place? Or some flowery grass to make my floating islands really pretty. I'm currently just working on the shape of the island with no builds yet.

to the west of the Springlands spire is Woodgard.

there you can farm dirt road, farm soil and, more importantly, flower soil

Thanks for the location.

I went to that area like you suggested and got some Flower Soil. Honestly, I think the rocky grass looks better compared to the Flowery soil. There's just something about that vibrant radioactive green texture that doesn't seem natural.

I wish they would make Grass Soil so we can make things look like the starting area. That grass field was really nice looking and seemed more natural overall. They also have those rocky stone roads, which I can't seem to find anywhere.

ah, I'm sorry it wasn't what you were looking for.

I quite like the look of the flower soil, but I think it may be more jarring depending on where it is used. in the Springlands, Low Meadows and Revelwood it doesn't stand out so much. other areas, it's pretty cartoony XD

I'm not sure why normal dirt becomes so rocky when placed by the player, it is rather silly.

agreed, we need proper stone roads. again, no idea why we can't harvest actual rocky roads. seems like an oversight? or maybe it's coming later?

oh, and perhaps a mixture of dirt and flower soil could work for you? it would be more tedious, but worth a shot

I've had a little luck with layering. I'm not sure what code decides with the drit block makes grass or grass with rocks. But I've come to a process where Before I get to building for real I rake out my grass. Anyplace that comes up to rocky I either dig out and drop some sand in the hole and then put the drit back so its slightly higher... or i just lower that spot. This kind of works for me. Well it works well enough. If neither of those work without having to add/remote to more height I will instead put in a small bit of flower dirt in that spot.

The last option that others have pointed out is just to use the flower dirt for the whole thing. And if you can live with it that is also an option

The only thing I got working for stone road was my starter home. I used the rake to pull the road all the way over to my doorstep. So you can attach the road to your buildings when one exists nearby. But can't find the road to mine to attach to my floating island.

when I get rocks in my grass I dig at the rock with a pickaxe then backstep and refill it with rake, no rocks

My entire lawn is rocky grass and the rake does nothing. When I use the pickaxes even the "grassy" parts disappear and turn into rocks. My lawn looks like sh*t.

Did you find a solution for this? I'm having the same problem. I used the special flower dirt you can dig up at the church near Harvest Homestead to make it all flowers instead of rocks, but I want grass too.

Nope. No solution.

Personally, I dislike the flowery grass for radioactive green.

Firstly I've noticed that nice grass can turn rocky if you dig a basement under it.

I usually put a tile of dirt over the whole area and then rake it into grass - so I cover it but the area is higher. I leave it higher if there is basement underneath otherwise I lower it to the original level with the rake.

Alternately put farm soil over it and make a garden - no lime green, just the plants

How deep is the dirt? I find that I get the rocky texture if there's stone (or a stone building material) directly under it. I've had better luck with multiple layers, so the dirt is at least foundation thick.

I'm trying to make a fantasy floating island. I can make the dirt two stories tall and it still doesn't change anything and ends up being rocky for the majority of my island.

Honestly, there are many quirks about the game that are ruining my plans time and time again. I constantly have to tear down and rebuild things because the way things auto-change when beside something or the ground just being ridiculously ugly.

It's constantly getting on my nerves. The game is turning into a massive time waster.

It's early access and game is not yet complete. I'm pretty sure we will get more of stuff like grass terrain and such.

I feel like this kind of terrain is biome specific. Certain biomes may only have ground like presented and other biomes my only have standard grass etc.
Ellis_Cake 8 MAR a las 18:38
I get that if the dirt layer is too thin,
Rocky variant in rhe biomes with it.

Need to put 2 or 3x rhe depth of manual soil to keep the surface from blending like that.
