Mining balance?
Anyone know if they are gonna fix mining so I don't have to swing my pickaxe 3-4 times for the chance of the resource I'm going for? I get like with a scrap pickaxe but a copper pickaxe still taking 3 swings to get stuff like (edit) copper....come on now...wtf.

It's not a 'chance,' it's fractional. Harder materials like Copper and up will give you something like .2 of a copper ore per swing, so if you're hitting a rich deposit of it it'll always be 5 swings, or sometimes 4 swings if you're getting .22 or something.

Shouldn't be the case for Salt though, if you're hitting a rich vein of it, because it's a soft material similar to Dirt or Sand.

Yeah sorry it was copper I'm pretty sure I was thinking I havent mined salt for a good bit. I think my point still kind of stands though....is this gonna get changed or is it gonna be like this forever because tbh...this is kind of the worst mining system I've ever had the displeasure of using in a game. also recipes need better balance like tin for example but regardless I don't think I should spend more than 30 minutes trying to mine 5-10 bars. I feel like this game does this alot with all resources it makes them needlessly tedious to get decent amounts of. not all resources but like....70% of them...thats...just too much global reduction on what it costs to make things or global increase on what everything drops. the only things I have plenty of regularly is stone and leather had to complete give up on the archer class because its just a giant time sink of doing menial tasks to be able to make the ammo to shoot my bow.

yeah I'd be a lot less fed up with this game if it didn't have the bizarre idea of 10 ingots taking 5 or 10? minutes each. It's not a lot of time but when you combine that with the mining taking forever, the smelting taking forever and it being pretty difficult to get resources with ease it all adds up tbh.

I keep coming and leaving thanks to the game feeling so weird, balance is off and the time for ♥♥♥♥ is way too much. Also farming. Try that and tell me you don't wanna shoot yourself

Yeah this game gives me heavy "we don't care about your time" vibes like everything feels like its built to just take unnecessary amounts of time although everything taking time to process into resources doesnt really bother me too much. Since I can go do things while I wait. its the gathering that gets me. I can't go do other things while gathering I have to gather lol. And although crafting time doesnt annoy me to no end. I think its completely unnecessary and serves no practical purpose at all. All the timers could be removed and the only change is people would finish the game faster because they wouldn't get sick and tired of waiting for stuff. I just hope they work on balancing everything in the game as it needs it badly.

The issue with smelting times is that I thought to myself "okay this takes a while, I'll do the logical thing and make more smel- where the ♥♥♥♥ do I get sand? oh okay far east in deadly shroud that is level 4 very cool (enemies are around 16-20 levels high)"

I don't know if I'm just not into these games all of a sudden but my patience fell flat when I played this and now I can't get into valheim, this or palworld lmao. I've said this before in another thread but I've played the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of subnautica and very "hard" minecraft modpacks. Tedium is my middle name but this game just sucks the fun out of my soul which sucks because the building system is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing.
Waiting an hour for 100 flax seeds, then planting them all individually then waiting a few in game days then waiting another hour to refine them

♥♥♥♥ that, I hope we get mods one day because the games fun but ♥♥♥♥ these waiting times, I play idle games for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ living and I can't stand it lmao. I've reached god knows how much paragon in kittens game but this is what does me in

edit : forgot to mention, yeah I don't like the gathering either. Mining is horrible

Better pickaxe will drastically increase your mining speed. For example iron pickaxe mine almost every resource in one swing (also don't forget to learn talent +30% mining power).

that does not make it sound any better in fact that makes it sound more ridiculous. You telling me that i have to get the final tier of tool to be able to mine efficiently is like saying beat bloodbourne once and the second time around its easier. like once I get to iron I won't even need the other minable resources roflmao like i'm confused are you trying to validate what I was saying by pointing this out? roflmao

the issue op and, by extension also me lol, are talking about is early game ♥♥♥♥. The early game is awful atm. or rather the part of the game where you first start mining is awful. I enjoyed looting and scrapping from a civilisation in ruins.
also stamina regen too
takes around 20-30 seconds for a full recharge to the point where I usually just grab my phone for tiktok brain rot whilst I regen lmao

Upgrade to Iron Pickaxe.

There's a good spot on the map between Rose Shell Burrow and the Cave Entrance where you will see Luminous Growth all over the place. It also has some great Iron Ore deposits and doesn't require you to enter the deadly shroud to obtain some.

While there're plenty of ways to increase stamina regen, such as resting and eating sweets, i do agree that's a pretty obnoxious wait.

roflmao yeah let me just skip right past bronze to go get some iron that I don't even think I can mine yet so I can go back to mine copper and tin to make bronze which I need to get iron smh. what are we even talking about right now do you even know?

You don’t need bronze pickaxe to mine iron. I got it with a copper pickaxe and skipped bronze pickaxe entirely in my playthrough since at the time tin was super expensive to craft for bronze and I didn’t want to waste the small amount of bronze I did have on it.

I agree mining is annoying given the multiple hits needed to get the resources once you hit copper, but it is balanced out by the exp gain while you do it, especially since the exp ramps up as you get another piece of ore within the time limit (I've hit 200+ exp per ore multiple times, and 100+ pretty frequently)
Storm Reaver Feb 6, 2024 @ 4:45pm
You still need the other materials to unlock other things. But having an Iron Pickaxe makes that much faster to mine. You want faster? Then upgrade. You want slower? Then don't.

Convenience in this game is achieved through upgrades.

I don't have any problem with the way it is. I only have to go get ore once in a while (like, 15 game hours).
No big deal to me.
Then again, I'm a boomer... so I have this skill called patience, which was removed from the game (of life) long ago.... but those that had it, got to keep it. ;)

And while you are certainly free to have your opinion on I wouldn't call what you have a skill lol. Unless idiocy is the name of this skill do you wear uggs too? I prefer to reserve patience for things I didn't put money in for. I find it really weird that I have to justify that it shouldn't take 4 swings to get a single piece of a resource I generally need around 20 of. I am trying to say we shouldn't have to spend so much time mining when there is plenty else to do in enshrouded. Its unnecessary you can have any opinion you want on it. But I find it hard to believe anyone actually thinks the game is better making it take longer to gather resources lol. Just keep in mind your acting superior because you don't care about wasting time. roflmao this skill called patience god your hysterical. but I guess if hitting a wall with a pickaxe is the most valuable use of your time in the last 30 years I would think I have special skills too.
