End game confusion
Folks, enjoyed the exploration and the combat mostly, despite some npc object and scenery collision bugs, especially with bosses. Even with the game at this stage with 90+ hours of enjoyment its been worth the entry cost when compared to the cost of a night out and a couple of beers.

Now having got that out of the way, I am a bit confused.

I have cleared all the fog from the map as far as I am aware (there seem to be areas reserved to the North and West possibly for expansion for release which is exciting), I think I have killed all of the bosses and destroyed all of the Shroud growths. I have made the best armour, collected all of the resources and made all of the workshop items. I now seem to be at an impasse. I have nothing further to do and the game hasn't told me I have 'won' and the story seems to be somewhat of a back story rather than one leading somewhere. I read an early access review that seemed to conclude that the end game of Enshrouded was to destroy all of the Wells and growths and at that point you 'save the world' and the game concludes.

Has anyone experienced an 'end game', hence I must have missed destroying a Well or something or perhaps failed to find an underground location. or something.

I appreciate the game is in early access and if the story and map is incomplete then that's fine, as I say, just a tad confused.

Did you find and kill the "corrupted" ancient guarding the source of the shroud deep underground?

The game is indeed incomplete and the Devs have stated as such. The EA release was intended to give "die-hard fans an early chance to play" (paraphrasing from memory so sorry if not the exact quote). They have a lot of work left to do, including a lot of stability and bug fixes to implement before they get to work on the midgame portion of the content. What we have right now is the early game, maybe a quarter or possibly a third of what the game will be when it is finished.

I'm not sure I have. Is there a quest name so I can take a look? thanks.

Im liking the story, I hope you are keyed into what the shroud is and what happened. I am disappointed that EVERYONE is dead and everything is in ruins. I mean there should be a village here or there of NPCs that can repopulate the world after we 'win.' But if noone is left why bother (jsut me thinking out loud, loving the game. so amny horus in and I am level 22 and still working with copper. cant find this wyrm thing to up my flame to level three >.<)

If I remember correctly, I read someplace that the current map is about the size of Cyberpunk 2077's map. Something like 24 square kilometers. They were saying they would like to get it to someplace like 64 square kilometers or something like that...someone correct me if I'm wrong. I read this like a week ago and my memory sucks. Anyway, lots of room for expansion in the game and you can count on it being unrecognizable from what it is now when they take it out of early access and it's considered feature complete. For now, it's the basic quests. Kill stuff. Explore. Build. That's it for now.

I just started Survival - Fountain of Youth again after I 100%ed it after the last major EA update. AFAIR the lore was pretty much you strand on an island where some XXX years ago others stranded. all dead till today (start of the game on first island). yesterday, as said, I started to play again further in my save and suddenly I was standing in front of a living NPC sitting in front af a fire (indian shaman or something). so there's that that suddenly repopulate a 'dead' game is possible.

back2topic: do we know for sure that at fullrelease the game will be a 'dead world' reagarding living NPC's beside the craftsmen we rescue? Maybe there will be more populated area out in the north? Or was it already completely denied by any dev?

The game is only 28% available, there is no end-game yet. If they come out with a story-line, proper npc's etc is anyones guess until its released. I haven't seen any news about it. I have done it all and got all achievements so looking forward to release, hopefully its soon.

Check out the hidden underground megastructure at the south of Pikemead's Reach
Just inside the miasma there is a deep rift (north to the Catacombs)
The red shroud covered a huge cave under it. If you are quick enough, you may still be able to see the entry hidden there before you die
