I'm not impressed with how the developers have made the boss only appear when you land in the gardens and disappear when you aren't there. This is against the whole games mechanic so far. You can only kill it one way and that is by melee combat. This makes the archer useless.

I found this in the comments on a YouTube video;

"I found that if you don't enter the arena, it doesn't despawn when you die. I jumped and glided my way around the back, placed a flame altar, you can trigger its spawn inside the throne room and then make your way to the top of the tower, and rain arrows down on it. It can still hit you with its ranged attacks but if you die, just go back up and keep shooting, and since it doesn't de-spawn, no pressure."

Also Acid Bite is pretty deadly as a spell.

Thank you for elaborating on my point. It is the progression locked behind combat that really grinds my gears. Keen's promo video made a big thing about choice and how to play this game, and they take away my choice here.
Also I'd argue that Enshrouded isn't an open world game. We are corralled by high unscalable cliffs like sheep being driven to a sheep dip. Again, Keen made a point of saying the game was about choice, but often it is a controlled choice.

You're welcome; people are pretty toxic in here. I would argue that we really don't have unscalable cliffs. Despite not having killed the wyvern yet, I still got up to the next biome by juggling flame altars and cliff hopping with a pickaxe. You really CAN get almost anywhere with a little patience. You can still progress, but eventually will have to return to that boss to tame the shroud. But because we can level up through exploration and mining, you can get better levels and gear before you face it, if you want to.

There is an easy way for ranged DPS to do this fight. When you are looking at the courtyard where you drop down, look to the right. You will see some mycelium coming out of a door. Use your pickaxe to make your way in and tunnel up. You will get up top and be able to get into a tower and keep going up. Go all the way to the top.

When you look across the courtyard from the top, you see an opening with mycelium coming out of that. Jump and aim for that opening. I used the upgraded glider but its a short distance so you should be able to do it with any of them. Once you get inside of there, you need to find a place to drop down behind the door where the boss would be. That door is locked but I used pickaxe again to burrow down through the floor into the bottom. The boss spawns on the other side of the door. Since you are stuck just stand there and let him kill you.

When you respawn, the boss will still be there. Buff up before you move out and watch out for his ranged attacks. He does an ice blast that you need to avoid and he does the bomblets Avoid both and find places to shoot him. Aim for his head. You will have to move your targeting around till it shows on his head. When he does the spawning of the adds is best time to hit him. It stuns him and if you keep shooting him in the head you will do massive damage.

typical "I'm so good I did it .. blah blah" brag stories here ignoring the plea for help. it is hard for some of us not so young who can play the rest of the game quite nicely.
point is this is a nasty boss fight compared to all the others and some of us have issues with it, I'm not in this for the boss fights but love the game for all the rest of the exploration etc but now I'm forced to try wreck my nerves and become a super pro like some of you to progress.
As it is I just got an item and I need "paper" .. so i assume that's just books but.. no, loads of new items to get just to get ahead, that's all getting a bit "nasty".

I killed it with archery. Hell, if you shoot it in the mouth when it starts summoning bugs it will get stunned and you can do a ton of damage to it's head. I was hitting almost 900 damage a shot with copper arrows on crits.

This really worked for me. Copper arrows to stun, then melee two-handed. I tried to times before and couldn't even get more than 5% health to drop. Then I tired the stun method and it worked with the first try. I guess you just need to know this specific mech with this boss.
