How do you sort your stuff?
Hey there!

I built a big storage building and currently try to build as much large magic chests as possible. How do you sort your items? Each item a chest? Or do you use item types and put several in a chest?

Being able to label a chest would be pretty nice, too, but for now, I'd just like to sort my items in a way I find them easily, if I ever need them again.

I "Try" to sort them for each profession but always end up mixing them up anyway and normal huge chests for gear since yeah don't need magic for that

I keep just 4 huge magic chests for crafting. more than enough to have a full stack of every craftable item ingame, and then some. if I want/need double or triple stacks of an item, I have a couple of regular chests for the "overflow".

don't see the point in keeping thousands of every single item. some are used alot more than others and tbh whether you farm it all now, or later, it's the same thing..

I use large chest for armour, as it fits 8 full sets perfectly. just me and my OCD. but kudos, I've seen too many people store armour/weapons in magic chests and I'm just like, WHY??

each to their own and all that, it doesn't bother me, but it also unalives me inside XD

How you sort your items is personal.
Where one would like a chest for every ite, (would take an enormous ammount of chests), where others only look at there crafting options.
Just like everything in any given game its a personal choice.

Im about to revise mine because I currently have all my crafters in seperate homes.
It is tedious dropping stuff off at each home like a postman.
I have learned the resources are available anywhere in your flame and not a proxy of tiles.

So I am going to build a depot and have 1 box for every type of resource.
I.E Grass, twigs and wood in one. Sand, Dirt, Stone, Sandstone, Limestone in another then metals and shroud stuff ect.

Each crafter will still have their own home because it looks better than having a box to live in.

I gave up.

When I get back to base I my a run on my crafting stations and top them up.

Then I go to my line of magic boxes and open each one and hit Shift R until my back pack is empty or I have to start a new box.

It is a nightmare if I have to manually find anything lucky most these auto pull from boxes

You can either make small rooms with separate stations and 2xhuge boxes (one for raw materiel and one for finished product) in every room or stack'em in a corner and just keep track.....I stack hem and keep track, just press Shift+R to auto-move into box and then G for autosort in boxes.....The food boxes are the only once that are sseperat at the cooking area, one for raw products and one for finished products.

Get the magic boxes asap.

you only need like 5 huge chests to store every single crafting material there is currently. so make 5 of these magic ones. gear can be stored in regular chests as there is no point putting gear inside magic chests.

Since we don't have signs to label chests, I put one large magical chest at each crafter npc. Even though they are all connected, it helps me to sort when I'm off loading after an adventure. This way if I'm looking for wood, nails, etc., I know to look in the lumber guy's chest. Anything related to potions will be in the Alchemist's chest, etc. Then I have a large chest in the garden for extra veggies beyond what is in the Farmer's magic chest for food crafting. That chest also holds my rake and hoe. In my house I have a chest just for trophy heads and another for armor I'm not using. So basically I use the crafters to "label" the items in their respective chests.

I don't have the game, but this is an easy one -- by placing chests close to a production-related thing (workbenches, for example) and then placing (only) items that are related to it. i.e a chest close to a blacksmith, and placing (only) items/gear that said blacksmith can craft inside it.
