Gem slot system

Since the game is very gear orientet, I think it could be very cool with a gem slot system!
What do you guys think?
Maby gems could drop from bosses, or be something that could be mined (like a very rare drop)...

There exists an upgrade-system instead. Sure, those bonuses are fixed. Perhaps a Gemslot would be more flexible. But this needs to change the rune-ssstem, then.... Or you can make gems out of runes in defferent quality depending on the reciepts you find and the amount of runes you use.

It certainly would be more flexible than the rune-system. But I think you don't need both.

I noticed the game only allows some weapons to be upgraded. Nothing else.
So why not have armor and such upgradable? Would only make sense.
