Levelling seems unbalanced?
Are people having an issue progressing the quests because you don't level up fast enough?

I started running out of quests around level 8-9, with the game directing me up to the level 13 stuff which was way too hard. So I had to grind and do pretty much the entire lower map before the Level 13 area, now Im level 11 and can handle stuff there (although the green scavangers are still very difficult to kill because I run out of stamina before they die)

I like doing side quests and exploring but it felt like I had to spend too much time 100%ing the area to level up enough to keep doing quests, I ran out of stuff to do.

Level is not the end of the world you can do much higher level then yourself if you smack some shrooms around to get some extra skill points.

one the green cleaver guys. Either run and take hits as you can. Or learn how to parry so you can get a stun in on them. Or get a good sheild and just block until they stop then get a hit or two and repeat. Or jump around a lot (no stam for jumping) there is a lot of ways to deal with them if you don't panic when they rush you.

you dont need to 100% everything, although it would help. what matter most is usually the mainline quest as they usually open up new option for crafting gears and even more quests. Also don't sleep on consumables. With the right one, you can def punch enemies above your level. And always keep your character rested for the buff, as it helps immensely with the stamina.

Honestly the game needs to adjust the enemies later on because some are weak and only two enemies in the game are actually strong. Currently the fastest way to level up is exploration and defeating enemies. This alone gives you more than any of the quests which the most exp i've seen given was 200. Only do the quest to get the crafting stations you're gonna need later. If you find a spire it gives you 500 exp and some enemies in the game give you 100+ exp at higher levels. I literally was able to solo level 16 mobs and I was only level 6. I recommend doing shroud roots to unlock skills faster as you get 3 I believe for just breaking the root. The game is still early access so I assume they will make quests more valuable and give more exp later. Everything eventually is going to get readjusted once the devs. get enough feedback so just take the time to enjoy whatever you can.

Games not really level dependent. It's more gear dependent.

I'm was level 7 fighting level 30 enemies near end-game areas. Some enemies like those dragon vultures are extremely annoying, but most enemies I can kite pretty easy. Most of the time I find myself a nice high place and shoot them with my wands. ROFL

I think quests are not the main focus you should aim for. I did them only when they were on my route of explration and had absolute no problem with getting lvl ups at all.

I have the reverse problem, I leveled too quick. I haven't gotten to the Pillars of Creation yet, and I am only Flame Level 3 with a ton of quests for the "beginner" areas and I am already level 25. That means I have at least half the game to go where I can't gain any more levels. I can still get some skill points via various scattered shroud shrooms and elixir wells along with upgrading my gear, but leveling is done for me until the cap is lifted. While not a game breaker, it is kind of a buzzkill.

I feel quite the opposite as OP.

The beginning of the game (first ~4 to 5 hours) feels tough-ish because you're learning, then the leveling for me was way too fast. I was typically over leveled for everything. If you start building and mining at all then you just explode on levels.

I think they need to cut experience given by everything DOWN by 20% across the board. I hit level 25 and I didnt even finish all the main quests and I didn't do most of the side quests. I got a ton of levels from mining and planting flax.

They need to:

  1. up the attack rate of most enemies (except the berserker boy, he felt great)
  2. add some sort of dodge for SOME enemies so you feel like you're fighting a smart enemy.
  3. Adjust arrow damage up
  4. Tone down wizard damage a little maybe like by 20% (I get the glass cannon but it's still just a LITTLE much)

Flying enemies are a pain in the ass for non-wizards. Arrows are so weak even at iron and if you're not a ranger/archer skill spec you're going to be sitting there for a long time slowly chipping away. They aren't hard, just tedious to deal with.

I'd like to see a comparison of play styles. Some folks level too fast. Other too slow. By comparing play styles we'll see that one prefers style A and other prefer style B. My guess is folks that like combat for it's own sake are leveling too fast, as they get all the kill exp as they do quests. Folks like myself who prefer to avoid combat where I can are relying more on quest exp than kills, and leveling too slowly.

A little tweaking could bring those play styles closer together. More exp for quests, less for kills and it evens out.

This is somewhat funny. some claim to level to slow, others claim to level to fast, still only like 4% of the players got the lvl 25 achievement.

@OP always keep in mind that only because you've got the quest, you aren't forced to fulfill it right away. Since it's an open world game, you can do alot of stuff besides quests and if you feel like a certain area is still to dangerous for you, simply avoid it until you've got better gear and explore other regions in stead.

For me, a lot of it was mining. About level 19, I realized I needed to get busy and stock up on resources, so I started mining in earnest. Next thing I knew, I was level 25.

For before level 19, it was all about running around and killing everything that moves and exploring everywhere. Since I really didn't do my due diligence and read the journal, I managed to level up merely by wandering around, with still many quests to be done and areas to be found. I am only flame level 3 and I haven't even killed the Wyvern Boss yet.

I think mining XP may need a nerf, or even eliminated, especially since gathering every other resource doesn't get any xp.

I think you need to remember not every one is playing the game the same way. The op seems to be more quest oriented and if is not doing any crafting and such at the same time it will hinder your level, were as other are doing both and levelling up rather easy. that is why some are slower than others.

I fought EVERYTHING. Every thing I saw I killed. I did a lot of metal runs as well in Rookmore over and over when I knew they would respawn. I was fighting, building, mining, questing, exploring, everything all the time. I crafted a ton as well. Tons of food, armor, etc.

My buddy mined and crafted (no fighting) for a day and he went from 19 to 25 in a day lol.

you get exp for nearly everything. you arent supposed to level purely from quests. as quests are a limited source in this game for exp. a very limited one. exp is a non issue. stop thinking you need quests to progress or level.
Bob Gnarly Feb 5, 2024 @ 6:15pm
I was always over-leveled in my playthrough.

You get a tonne of XP for killing, mining & exploration which came naturally, so i was always swimming in XP.
Judaspriester Feb 6, 2024 @ 12:39am
mining is a little overtuned exp wise, at least in comparison.
