"q" button for "ready ranged weapon"

... doesn't do anything. If I switch to a ranged weapon, then I do get the option to hit "q" instead of the fire button. But I thought it was suppose to allow you to quickly switch to ranged (while you hold Q) and then when you release it, it goes back to whatever you were using. My "ready ranged weapon" button does nothing. Am I doing something wrong?

you have to Equip it first it does not need to be on your hot bar.

Right click it in your backpack and one of the options will be Equip. It will then show up on the right end of your hot bar.

Now it does not matter what you have in your hand any time you hold Q down it should switch to your range weapon.

Can also just slot it in the toolbar as well which is what i do
